This opportunity has arisen due to an internal promotion, reflecting the career development opportunities available at Travel Chapter and the growth of our Product Engineering team.
We're a data-led business, and data plays a critical role in helping us make better decisions, create exceptional experiences for our guests and property owners, and operate more effectively across the organisation.
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help shape the future of our data platform. You'll play a key role in designing, building and evolving the systems, pipelines and models that power reporting, analytics and data-driven decision-making across the business.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing technical direction and taking ownership of solutions from design through to production. You'll work closely with teams across Data, Product and Engineering, helping us build a modern, reliable and scalable data platform while supporting the growth of engineering capability within the team.
The role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL processes and data models that transform data from across the business into trusted, accessible and actionable datasets.
You'll contribute to architectural decisions, improve engineering standards and help ensure our data solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned to business needs.
Alongside hands-on engineering, you'll work with stakeholders across the organisation to understand how data is used, identify opportunities for improvement and deliver solutions that create real business value.
You'll also play an important role in mentoring other engineers, sharing knowledge and helping shape how we continue to evolve our data engineering practices.
What you'll be doing

- Making and documenting architectural and data modelling decisions
- Developing robust data models and database structures for analytical and operational workloads
- Building reliable data solutions that support reporting, analytics, operational processes and future data products
- Championing engineering best practice across SQL, Python, testing, documentation and code review
- Reviewing technical designs and code produced by other engineers
- Identifying and addressing technical debt while driving continuous improvement across the platform
- Optimising data solutions for performance, scalability and reliability
- Ensuring data quality through appropriate validation, monitoring and testing processes
- Improving observability and monitoring to support a highly reliable platform
- Collaborating with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions
- Diagnosing and resolving production issues and implementing preventative measures where appropriate
- Coaching and mentoring other engineers to help raise capability across the team
- Keeping up to date with developments in data engineering and evaluating opportunities to improve our technology stack
- Participating in the team's out-of-hours support rota when required
