Data Engineer

£60,000 - £70,000 + Benefits Fully Remote (UK) 12-Month Fixed Term Contract

About the Role

We're looking for a Data Engineer to join a collaborative and highly regarded data team delivering business-critical data solutions across a complex enterprise environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, building data pipelines, and working across the full data lifecycle. You'll join a well-established team with strong engineering standards, modern cloud technologies, and the chance to work on a varied mix of project work, platform enhancements, and operational support.

Unlike many contract or fixed-term opportunities, you'll be given the time and support to learn the environment, understand the existing framework, and gradually take ownership of increasingly complex work.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Data Engineer, you'll be involved in a broad range of activities, including:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines
  • Building and enhancing ETL/ELT processes
  • Working with data stored in cloud-based data lakes
  • Supporting and optimising existing data platforms
  • Troubleshooting data quality and calculation issues
  • Data modelling and warehouse development
  • Contributing to peer reviews and engineering best practices
  • Supporting project delivery across multiple business areas
  • Investigating and resolving technical tickets and production issues
  • Working closely with Data Engineers, Operations teams and stakeholders across the business

This is a genuine end-to-end engineering role where no two days are likely to be the same.

Skills & Experience

We're more interested in strong problem-solving ability and engineering mindset than finding someone who ticks every box.

We'd love to hear from candidates with experience in:

Essential

  • Strong SQL development skills
  • ETL/ELT development experience
  • Experience working within cloud data environments
  • Data pipeline development and maintenance
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to investigate complex data issues independently
  • Experience working within structured development and delivery frameworks

Desirable

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Azure Data Factory (ADF)
  • Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Synapse Serverless SQL Pools
  • Data Lake architectures
  • Data Modelling (Kimball methodology)
  • Apache Spark
  • SSIS
  • PowerShell
  • Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
  • YAML-based deployment pipelines

About You

You'll be someone who enjoys understanding how things work and isn't afraid to dig into a problem until you find the answer.

We're particularly interested in people who:

  • Take ownership of problems rather than waiting for solutions
  • Are naturally curious and enjoy learning new technologies
  • Can work independently whilst remaining a strong team player
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Enjoy collaborative working and knowledge sharing
