Senior Database Administrator

Location: Enfield, Connecticut

Work Environment: On-site, five days per week

Employment Type: Permanent, full-time

Compensation: $130,000 to $165,000 per year

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Database Administrator for a client in the waste and recycling industry. This individual will serve as the organization’s database authority, supporting production database administration while helping design and build its data warehouse and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines.

The position requires extensive hands-on experience with SQL Server and PostgreSQL, database performance tuning, archiving and retention strategies, backup and disaster recovery, dimensional modeling, and data integration. This is an individual-contributor role reporting to the Chief Information & Technology Officer and requires working on-site in Enfield five days per week.


Responsibilities

  • Administer and support production SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments.
  • Monitor and improve database performance through execution-plan analysis, indexing, partitioning, statistics management, and resolution of blocking and deadlocks.
  • Design and operate database archiving, retention, and purge strategies for large transactional tables.
  • Own database backup processes, restore testing, high availability, and disaster-recovery readiness against established recovery objectives.
  • Design dimensional data models, including star schemas, fact tables, conformed dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Build, maintain, and support production ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Establish database standards, monitoring practices, and operational priorities.
  • Support on-premises and cloud-based database environments.
  • Partner with technology leadership and business stakeholders to explain technical risks, options, and trade-offs.
  • Serve as the primary database responder for production issues and participate in applicable on-call support.


Required Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of hands-on production database administration experience, including at least three years at a senior or lead level.
  • Advanced SQL Server administration experience, including SQL Server 2016 or later.
  • Experience with high-availability technologies such as Always On, clustering, or replication.
  • Hands-on PostgreSQL production administration experience.
  • Advanced database performance-tuning skills, including execution plans, index strategy, partitioning, blocking, and deadlock analysis.
  • Experience designing and operating archiving, retention, and purge strategies.
  • Experience designing dimensional data models.
  • Experience building and supporting production ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Experience owning backup, restore testing, and disaster-recovery processes.
  • Ability to work on-site in Enfield, Connecticut, five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience with dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, or Airbyte.
  • Experience supporting ERP or operational platforms in waste, logistics, transportation, distribution, utilities, field service, or manufacturing.
  • Experience with route, telematics, scale or weight, asset-tracking, or high-volume recurring-billing data.
  • Experience migrating on-premises databases to cloud environments.
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD processes for database changes.
  • Experience with Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, or Crystal Reports.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity consolidated reporting.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 to $165,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
