Position Summary
The Financial Controller is a full-time, on-site position in Bryan/College Station, Texas, reporting directly to the COO. This role oversees the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the organization’s financial reporting while providing financial analysis, planning, and strategic support to executive leadership. The Controller will work closely with the CSO, executive team, billing and revenue cycle leadership, department heads, and external financial partners. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on accounting expertise with financial planning and business partnership skills.
Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is required. This position requires consistent on-site availability, responsiveness, collaboration, and timely follow-through. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
- Own the monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and budget-to-actual results.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, locations, classes, and entity reporting within QBO.
- Oversee bank, credit card, Ramp, accounts payable, vendor, and payment activities, ensuring accurate coding, approvals, documentation, and reconciliations.
- Monitor banking activity, cash balances, transfers, and organizational liquidity requirements.
Revenue Accounting & Financial Analysis
- Partner with billing and revenue cycle leadership to reconcile revenue, collections, accounts receivable activity, adjustments, and related financial records.
- Monitor revenue and expense trends and identify material variances, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop financial models, KPIs, and reporting tools that provide leadership with clear visibility into organizational performance.
- Translate financial results into actionable recommendations for the COO and executive leadership.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with executive leadership and department heads.
- Maintain financial forecasts for revenue, operating expenses, cash flow, and other significant business drivers.
- Prepare budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual variance analyses.
- Maintain reliable cash flow forecasts and proactively communicate anticipated liquidity or funding needs.
- Support financial planning and scenario analysis for growth, staffing, investments, and other strategic initiatives.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, document, and maintain effective accounting policies, internal controls, approval processes, and financial workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve the accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and automation of financial processes.
- Maintain appropriate financial documentation and record-retention practices.
- Support applicable healthcare, regulatory, accreditation, payer, and compliance requirements where they intersect with financial operations and reporting.
- Safeguard confidential financial, employee, patient, vendor, and organizational information.
Audit, Tax & External Partners
- Serve as the primary financial liaison with external accountants, tax professionals, auditors, banks, and other financial partners.
- Coordinate financial schedules and documentation required for audits, tax filings, reviews, and other external reporting.
- Support tax planning, ownership distributions, and entity-level financial matters in partnership with external professionals.
Leadership & Business Partnership
- Serve as a trusted financial resource to the COO and executive leadership team.
- Collaborate with department leaders to strengthen budget ownership, expense management, and financial accountability.
- Establish a consistent financial reporting calendar and provide timely, accurate management reporting.
- Present financial performance, trends, risks, and opportunities in a clear and practical manner.
- Promote a disciplined, transparent, and accountable financial operating environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including financial reporting, month-end close, general ledger accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, or comparable senior accounting professional.
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Microsoft Excel required.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, variance analysis, and management reporting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to work full-time on-site in Bryan/College Station, Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA designation and/or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, substance use treatment, rehabilitation services, or another healthcare-services environment.
- Experience supporting multi-location or multi-entity organizations.
- Familiarity with healthcare revenue cycle management, billing, collections, payer reporting, and revenue reconciliation.
- Experience with Ramp or similar expense and accounts-payable management platforms.
- Experience working with external accounting firms, auditors, and tax professionals.
