The Opportunity
KYDA Partners has partnered with a growing, vertically integrated life sciences organization to appoint an Operations Finance Director for its manufacturing operation in San Antonio, Texas.
This is a key finance leadership hire with significant exposure to both Finance and Operations leadership. The successful candidate will act as a strategic partner to the business, helping drive financial performance, cost control, operational efficiency and improved decision-making across the manufacturing operation.
We are looking for an experienced manufacturing finance leader who combines strong controllership and cost-accounting fundamentals with the analytical and commercial capability to understand the business behind the numbers and translate financial insight into operational action.
Responsibilities
- Lead plant-level budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, incorporating operational inputs and business priorities.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial performance.
- Lead analysis of production costs, operational KPIs and financial variances.
- Maintain and improve standard costing across products and manufacturing processes.
- Analyze material, labor and overhead variances and partner with Operations to implement corrective actions.
- Identify key cost drivers, risks and opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Develop and monitor KPIs around conversion cost, productivity, efficiency and overall plant performance.
- Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain and Engineering leadership to align financial and operational priorities.
- Maintain strong financial controls around inventory and fixed assets.
- Perform financial analysis and ROI assessments for capital projects and major operational initiatives.
- Support decision-making around CapEx allocation and resource utilization.
- Lead and develop the existing Finance team, providing structure, mentorship and support.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure adherence to corporate financial policies and controls.
- Drive continuous improvement, automation and greater financial visibility across the operation.
- Support ERP optimization and continued development of financial and operational systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline required.
- 5+ years of progressive Finance experience within a manufacturing environment, with significant exposure to plant or operations finance.
- Proven experience in a Plant Controller, Operations Finance, Manufacturing Finance or comparable leadership capacity.
- CPA, CMA and/or MBA would be advantageous but is not required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong manufacturing finance and controllership background.
- Deep knowledge of cost accounting and standard costing, including material, labor and overhead variance analysis.
- Proven ability to understand the financial drivers behind manufacturing operations and translate analysis into meaningful business action.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, FP&A and financial modeling capabilities.
- Experience partnering directly with plant, manufacturing and Operations leadership.
- Strong understanding of inventory, fixed assets and manufacturing financial controls.
- Experience supporting CapEx decisions, ROI analysis and cost-optimization initiatives.
- Demonstrable experience identifying cost issues and driving improvements in financial and operational performance.
- Experience implementing, transitioning or optimizing ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and mentor an existing Finance team.
- Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience within life sciences, medical device, biotech or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- NetSuite experience, particularly implementation, transition or optimization.
- CPA, CMA and/or MBA qualification.
- Experience supporting ERP transformation, process automation or broader finance transformation initiatives.
- Experience within an organization undergoing growth, operational change or process improvement.
The Person
This role requires more than someone who can report and explain historical financial results.
We are looking for a hands-on, commercially minded Finance leader who can get close to the manufacturing operation, understand how the business makes money and provide Operations leadership with the financial insight needed to make better decisions.
The successful candidate will combine technical Finance and controllership expertise with strong analytical capability, sound judgement and the leadership maturity to influence and develop others across the organization.
