The Director of Finance is responsible for directing the Club’s financial and accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, responsible budgeting, and sound financial management. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Finance works closely with the General Manager/COO and department leaders to provide financial information, analysis, and recommendations that support the Club’s operational and strategic objectives.
The Director of Finance oversees the day-to-day Finance/Accounting function while maintaining a broader perspective on budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, financial performance, and organizational sustainability.
- Direct the Club’s accounting and financial reporting functions.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Review financial results, identify significant trends and variances, and provide meaningful analysis to management.
- Present financial information to the General Manager/COO, Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and department leaders as requested.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment and consistent application of accounting policies.
- Lead the preparation of the Club’s annual operating and capital budgets.
- Work collaboratively with department heads to develop realistic departmental budgets and financial goals.
- Monitor performance against budget and provide regular variance analysis.
- Prepare financial forecasts and projections throughout the year.
- Assist with long-range financial and capital planning.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, member billing, cash receipts, payroll accounting, general ledger activity, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, and other accounting functions.
- Ensure month-end and year-end closing processes are completed accurately and timely.
- Review account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Monitor member accounts and ensure billing and payment activity is properly recorded.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal accounting controls, financial policies, and procedures.
- Protect Club assets through appropriate financial controls and safeguards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax requirements, accounting standards, Club policies, and governmental regulations.
- Coordinate the annual financial audit and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Coordinate tax filings and other required financial reporting with outside professionals.
- KPI reporting and management and incorporating that into financial reporting
- Ability to analyze the data and synthesize it into meaningful information for the board is critical - both in writing and verbal presentation
- Managing short term investments
- Monitor daily cash position and cash flow requirements.
- Manage banking relationships and account administration.
- Review bank reconciliations and cash management procedures.
- Assist with monitoring investments, reserve funds, and debt obligations as applicable.
- Serve as a financial resource to department managers and senior leadership.
- Assist managers in understanding financial statements, departmental performance, labor costs, purchasing trends, and budget variances.
- Develop reporting and analysis that helps department leaders make informed operational decisions.
- Identify opportunities for improved efficiency, cost management, and financial performance without compromising member service.
- IT management and coordination with outside vendor
- Supervise and develop Finance/Accounting employees.
- Establish departmental procedures, priorities, deadlines, and performance expectations.
- Ensure adequate cross-training and documentation of critical accounting processes.
- Promote a professional, collaborative, accurate, and service-oriented Finance Department.
- Participate actively as a member of the Club’s leadership team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
- CPA or CMA designation is a plus. CHAE designation is a plus.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or departmental leadership experience required.
- Private club, hospitality, resort, hotel, restaurant, or similar industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Experience with accounting/financial management systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with Boards or financial committees.
