Summary:

A growth-stage company in Greylock’s portfolio is building an agent observability platform that helps teams understand how their AI systems behave in production and improve them over time.

The company is rebuilding the data foundation that Product, Finance, and GTM rely on. This hire will define core business metrics, build trusted data models, and own the pipelines and standards that make self-serve analytics possible.

The initial focus is analytics engineering, with ownership of the data engineering needed to support it. You’ll work directly with executives to understand their questions, translate them into clear definitions and models, and explain how the data works.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a senior or staff-level engineer to establish the technical direction of a growing data function. You’ll have access to an experienced consultant and the opportunity to help shape additional hiring as the function develops.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define foundational data models across product usage, customers, financial metrics, and GTM activity
  • Translate business questions into clear metric definitions and reusable dbt models
  • Build a semantic layer that gives teams consistent metrics for self-serve analytics
  • Design and operate reliable ingestion pipelines for product events and other business data
  • Partner with Product and Engineering on instrumentation, event schemas, and data contracts
  • Establish standards for data quality, governance, documentation, and lineage
  • Work directly with executives to clarify requests, explain tradeoffs, and build confidence in the data
  • Own reliability across ingestion, transformation, and the systems that consume the data
  • Set technical direction and build a foundation that additional team members can extend

Where You’ll Work in the Stack:

  • Ingestion: Product events, CRM, and other business data sources
  • Modeling: SQL, dbt, business entities, and shared metric definitions
  • Storage and orchestration: The current environment includes Snowflake; you’ll help determine how the architecture evolves
  • Analytics: Semantic models and self-serve access to trusted metrics
  • Governance and reliability: Data quality, access controls, lineage, monitoring, and debugging

What We’re Looking For:

  • Senior or staff-level experience in analytics engineering or data engineering, with substantial ownership of business data models
  • Strong SQL and dbt skills, plus experience with modern warehouses and orchestration tools
  • Data engineering depth to build ingestion pipelines, integrate sources, and troubleshoot production issues independently
  • Experience supporting multiple business functions, such as Product, Finance, and GTM
  • Experience working directly with senior stakeholders to clarify ambiguous requests and explain technical decisions
  • Sound judgment around architecture, data quality, governance, and long-term maintainability
  • A track record of taking broad problems from definition through implementation
  • Comfort working independently and balancing foundational work with immediate business needs

Signals We’re Especially Excited About:

  • You’ve built or substantially rebuilt a company’s data foundation
  • You’ve worked at a B2B company with both self-serve and enterprise customers
  • You’ve modeled product usage, consumption, or financial metrics for a usage-based business
  • You’ve joined a startup early and helped its data systems grow with the company
  • You’ve built product-event pipelines and partnered with engineers on instrumentation
  • You’ve made trusted metrics accessible through a semantic layer or self-serve analytics

Why This Role:

  • Establish the data foundation for a growing AI company
  • Own consequential decisions about architecture, modeling, and tooling
  • Work directly with executives across Product, Finance, and GTM
  • Build systems that help teams understand and operate the business
  • Help shape a data function with room to grow
