Senior Data Engineer
Location: Arlington, VA – On-site
Salary: $160,000–$170,000 base + bonus
Type: Full-time
We’re partnering with an established and growing renewable energy company that develops, owns and operates solar energy projects across the United States.
The business manages projects across the full development lifecycle, from site origination through development and asset management, and is continuing to expand beyond distributed solar into battery storage.
With approximately 140–150 employees and significant recent investment, the company is now investing heavily in the data infrastructure required to support its next phase of growth.
The opportunity
You’ll become the company’s first dedicated Data Engineering hire and take ownership of building its modern data environment from an early stage.
The company has recently adopted Snowflake, and you’ll be responsible for establishing the architecture, developing scalable data pipelines and creating the structured data foundation that supports reporting, business decision-making and future AI initiatives.
This is a highly autonomous role combining hands-on Data Engineering, architecture, stakeholder engagement and longer-term data strategy.
You’ll initially operate as a team of one from a Data Engineering perspective, with the longer-term goal of building a three-to-five-person data team around the capability you establish.
What you’ll be doing
• Owning the cloud data warehouse architecture and helping establish the Snowflake environment
• Building and maintaining data ingestion pipelines across Salesforce, ERP, geospatial and production monitoring systems
• Developing and maintaining the transformation layer using dbt or equivalent technologies
• Designing scalable data models, a metrics layer and data quality standards
• Supporting executive dashboards covering areas such as margin, project pipeline, costs and subscriber performance
• Enabling self-service analytics through a governed BI environment
• Translating loosely defined business requirements into practical data solutions
• Working closely with the Co-Founder/CDO on data governance, roadmap and cross-functional initiatives
• Partnering with executives, technical stakeholders and non-technical users across the organization
• Helping create the structured data foundation required for future AI initiatives
What we’re looking for
• 5+ years of relevant Data Engineering experience
• Strong hands-on Python and SQL skills
• Experience designing and implementing modern cloud data infrastructure
• Strong experience with Snowflake preferred
• Candidates with Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift or comparable cloud data warehouse experience may also be considered
• Experience building, maintaining and improving scalable data pipelines
• Experience with dbt or an equivalent transformation framework
• Strong understanding of data architecture, modeling and data quality
• Experience with a modern BI platform such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker
• Ability to build data infrastructure from an early stage rather than only operating within an established environment
• Comfortable working independently in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment without heavily defined SOPs or technical specifications
• Strong stakeholder-management and requirements-gathering skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with executives, technical teams and non-technical users
• Comfortable remaining hands-on while helping shape the longer-term data strategy
Experience within renewable energy, solar, utilities, infrastructure, commercial real estate, asset development, project finance or another project-based business would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
Experience with Pandas, PySpark, geospatial data or operational/production data would also be beneficial.
Why join?

• Join an established renewable energy business of approximately 140–150 employees
• Join at an important stage of growth following significant investment from BlackRock
• Work across a complex combination of project, financial, geospatial and operating-asset data
