Director of Data & Technology Strategy

As a rapidly growing organization, Vitana Pediatric & Orthodontic Partners is looking for a Director of Data & Technology to lead the development and execution of our data and technology strategy.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role responsible for building the data infrastructure that supports Vitana's growing network of pediatric dental and orthodontic practices while also serving as the organization's technical lead across IT, systems, vendors, security, and technology initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen. This person should be equally comfortable designing data architecture, writing SQL or Python, partnering with third-party IT providers, and translating complex technical initiatives into measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Infrastructure

• Lead the design and development of Vitana's centralized data architecture and warehouse infrastructure.
• Design normalized data schemas for critical operational and financial data, including production, collections, appointments, treatment starts, and other practice-level KPIs.
• Build and maintain extraction and transformation processes to consolidate data from multiple Practice Management Systems.
• Establish validation and reconciliation processes to ensure centralized data accurately reflects source systems and existing reporting.
• Develop and manage scalable data pipelines and integrations as Vitana continues to acquire and integrate additional practices.
• Write, review, and manage SQL and Python codebases supporting Vitana's data infrastructure.
• Establish standards for data quality, governance, documentation, and accessibility.
• Oversee BI and reporting solutions that provide actionable information to Finance, Operations, Marketing, and executive leadership.
• Translate complex data into clear, usable reporting for non-technical operators and business leaders.

Technology Leadership

• Serve as the primary technical leader and IT point person for Vitana.
• Develop and execute Vitana's overall technology roadmap in alignment with the organization's growth strategy.
• Partner with practices and their existing IT providers to create consistency and scalability across the organization.
• Coordinate with IT partners on servers, infrastructure, hardware refreshes, networks, and other technology needs.
• Identify opportunities to standardize and improve technology across Vitana's practices.
• Lead the implementation and scaling of technology improvements across existing and newly affiliated practices.
• Evaluate new systems, platforms, and technology solutions based on business needs, scalability, security, and ROI.

Vendor Management & Compliance

• Own relationships and negotiations with IT and technology vendors.
• Evaluate vendor performance, pricing, service levels, and technology recommendations.
• Ensure Vitana's data and technology infrastructure maintains appropriate security and privacy standards.
• Own technology-related data compliance requirements, including HIPAA.
• Develop processes and standards that protect sensitive patient, employee, and business information.

Leadership & Business Partnership

• Serve as the technical lead for Vitana and take ownership of technology-related business outcomes.
• Partner closely with executive leadership, Finance, Operations, Marketing, HR, and practice leadership.
• Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Communicate technical concepts, risks, recommendations, and priorities clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Build the processes, infrastructure, and ultimately the team needed to support Vitana's continued growth.
• Develop a scalable technology strategy that supports the integration of new practices and future organizational growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, technology leadership, or a related field.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience building and managing data infrastructure within a multi-site healthcare organization or similarly complex multi-location business.
• Dental industry and Practice Management System experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience designing and managing data warehouses using platforms such as Google BigQuery, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Redshift, or similar technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python, with demonstrated ability to build, review, and manage production codebases.
• Experience building data pipelines, integrations, ETL/ELT processes, and data validation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of BI and reporting, with experience delivering actionable information to non-technical operators and executives.
• Experience overseeing IT vendors, infrastructure, hardware, systems, and technology implementations.
• Working knowledge of healthcare data privacy, security, and HIPAA compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and lead complex technical initiatives from strategy through execution.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to connect technology investments to operational and financial outcomes.
