Senior Data Engineer
Indexed description
Our technical team runs as two streams - data and software, we’re 75% data, 25% software focus. We’ve found AI amazing at the software part, and we do a LOT of work on the data side to build reliable data structures for humans and agents alike to do their best work with.
The stack:
- Data: Snowflake (including Cortex), dbt, Postgres; ingestion from Shopify, PLMs (e.g. Centric), returns platforms and customer warehouses (e.g. BigQuery)
- Languages: SQL and Python are the core. TypeScript would be a nice bonus.
- Product: React web app, Python API (FastAPI), Cube.dev semantic layer
- Infrastructure: AWS (ECS/ECR, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront), Docker, a single monorepo with branch-scoped preview environments
- AI: LLM chat and agents (Anthropic Claude) are core product features, not add-ons, and we're heavy users of AI coding agents internally, with a codebase deliberately structured for agent-driven development
The role:
What we're looking for
- You've built and owned production data pipelines at a startup, not just contributed to someone else's platform, but made the architectural calls and lived with the consequences.
- You've built AI/ML features hands-on, including validating models against real, messy client data.
- AI-native thinking, with practical judgement on working with LLMs: prompt and retrieval design, evaluating output quality, knowing when a cheaper model is good enough.
- You've worked on data-heavy products where enterprise clients depend on the numbers being right.
- You scope and sequence your own work. You can take a commercial priority, break it into shippable pieces, and say what's realistic by when.
- Cost-aware by instinct. You notice when a query or a job is burning money, and you fix it before anyone has to ask.
- A natural communicator. You turn technical detail into plain, simple language and build warm, trusted relationships with customers and colleagues alike.
- Ambitious and quick. You set a high bar for yourself and the people around you, and you'd rather ship something good this week than something perfect next month.
- High values alignment, high trust. Someone we'd want beside us for the long haul.
Nice to have:
- Experience working under GDPR / ISO 27001 requirements
- Comfortable walking clients through results and the data behind them
- Understanding of the fashion/retail industry
If you don't tick every box but this role excites you, please apply anyway; we'd love to hear from you.
