Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal DevOps Engineer to lead and drive the evolution of our DevOps practices across the organization. As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for shaping the vision and architecture for our application infrastructure, automating key workflows, providing cost reporting and transparency, and ensuring the scalability, reliability and security of our systems. This is a strategic leadership role, where you will influence technical decisions, mentor engineering teams, and be at the forefront of building and optimizing the next generation of our on premise and cloud application infrastructure.
You will need to reside within 50 miles of our Corporate Headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ as this role has the option of hybrid or onsite.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Define the overarching DevOps strategy and vision, aligning with business goals and driving the adoption of modern infrastructure management practices across the organization.
- Infrastructure Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure solutions using AEM, Azure, GCP, and other cloud platforms. Build out architectures that support multi-cloud environments and hybrid cloud strategies.
- Automation at Scale: Spearhead the automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines at scale using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools. Streamline and optimize the software development lifecycle to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Cloud-Native Solutions: Architect and implement cloud-native services, working with the Application Engineering teams for developing the future integration of containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift) for high availability and scalability.
- Innovation & Best Practices: Lead the exploration and adoption of emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks that enhance the DevOps lifecycle. Champion best practices for continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), Infrastructure as Code (IaC),Configuration as Code (CaC) and site reliability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with app engineering, security, infrastructure, operations, and product teams to ensure seamless deployment and monitoring of applications, identifying bottlenecks and continuously improving the development and deployment processes.
- Performance & Reliability Engineering: Own the performance, reliability, and availability of production systems. Implement advanced monitoring solutions (e.g., ELK Stack, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) to ensure proactive management and rapid resolution of performance issues.
- Security & Compliance: Provide leadership on security practices within the DevOps pipelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices. Implement robust security automation to secure infrastructure and applications.
- Mentorship & Thought Leadership: Mentor and guide senior and junior DevOps engineers, promoting a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and innovation. Be a thought leader, advocating for DevOps principles across the organization and presenting at conferences, meetups, or internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Lead complex troubleshooting efforts, root cause analysis, and post-mortems for major incidents or outages. Establish incident management processes to reduce downtime and improve system resilience.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain high-quality documentation for infrastructure, processes, and DevOps workflows. Provide regular updates to leadership on the status and impact of DevOps initiatives and projects.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering with a proven track record of leading and scaling complex systems and infrastructure.
- Expert-level experience with cloud platforms (AEM, Azure, GCP) and deep understanding of cloud architectures, services, and best practices.
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Expertise in CI/CD pipeline design and management (Octopus Deploy, TeamCity/Jenkins, GitHub, etc.), with a focus on automation, scalability, and efficiency.
- Strong experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, etc) and microservices architecture.
- Deep understanding of DevOps best practices, including automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, version control, and system reliability.
- Strong background in security practices in DevOps pipelines, such as identity management, access control, encryption, vulnerability scanning, and compliance.
- Advanced proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Go, Ruby, or Powershell.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (AppDynamics, ELK stack, Cribl, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, etc.) for proactive system health checks and issue resolution.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a focus on high-impact technical decisions that ensure system reliability and performance.
- Certifications in relevant cloud technologies, e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
- Kubernetes certifications (e.g., Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)).
- Experience with serverless architectures (Azure Functions, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions) and edge computing.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience working in fast-paced, collaborative development environments.
- Experience with data management (SQL/NoSQL) in cloud-based or distributed systems.
- Prior experience in large-scale enterprise environments with complex, multi-team projects.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to envision and execute long-term DevOps strategies that align with business and technical goals.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to lead and inspire a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of innovation.
- Excellent Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work cross-functionally, influencing and collaborating with engineering, operations, security, and business teams.

Pay & Benefits Data (in accordance with the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act)
- Minimum Salary: $166,950
- Maximum Salary: $241,500
