Senior Backend Engineer
Indexed description
What you will be doing:
- Take ownership of the architecture and reliability of our scraping platform end to end;
- Design, implement, and scale extraction pipelines in Python and Go, choosing the right tool for each job;
- Apply LLMs to extraction and normalisation problems, with evaluation and guardrails so output stays accurate and costs stay predictable;
- Build and run the supporting infrastructure: scheduling and orchestration, proxy and session management, queuing, storage, and observability;
- Solve anti-bot systems, rate limiting, browser automation, fingerprinting, deduplication, and change detection at scale;
- Develop backend services and APIs that deliver structured, well-documented datasets to downstream consumers;
- Contribute to the platform roadmap by surfacing technical priorities, risks, and trade-offs;
- Raise the bar on engineering practice (testing, code review, documentation, monitoring) and share knowledge with less experienced colleagues;
- Take part in architecture discussions and bring well-argued recommendations on build-vs-buy and technical direction.
Requirements:
- Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field;
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a substantial part of it in data acquisition or backend systems;
- Strong production experience in Python, and solid working experience in Go (or deep proficiency in one plus demonstrated ability to pick up the other quickly);
- Proven track record building and operating scraping systems at scale — not just scripts, but systems that stay up;
- Deep understanding of HTTP, HTML/DOM parsing, browser automation, and web protocols;
- Hands-on experience with anti-bot countermeasures, proxy infrastructure, and rate-limit strategies;
- Strong grasp of concurrency, distributed systems, and API design;
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query performance;
- Comfortable with Docker, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure;
- Ownership mindset: you scope your own work, make decisions, and are accountable for what you ship;
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction;
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
