We're working with a highly successful technology-driven organisation seeking a Senior Platform & DevOps Engineer to join a small, high-impact engineering team responsible for building and evolving cloud platforms that power critical applications.
This isn't a traditional "keep the lights on" infrastructure role.
You'll join a collaborative team of seven engineers where platform engineering, DevOps, automation and cloud infrastructure come together. The environment is built around innovation, ownership and engineering excellence, giving you the freedom to challenge existing approaches, introduce new ideas and directly influence technical direction.
The team already has a handful of engineers who thrive on autonomy and enjoy solving complex problems through automation, modern platform engineering practices and continuous improvement. They're looking for a third engineer with a similar mindset who wants to help shape what's next.
This role would suit someone who is already a strong engineer but still wants to learn, grow and broaden their expertise across platform engineering, DevOps and Infrastructure as Code.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing, building and operating cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure
- Developing and improving CI/CD capabilities and deployment automation
- Working extensively with Kubernetes and container-based platforms
- Building reusable Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform
- Driving platform standardisation, automation and engineering best practice
- Improving observability, monitoring and operational excellence
- Collaborating closely with software engineers, architects and technology stakeholders
- Evaluating and introducing new tools, technologies and approaches where they add value
- Taking ownership of complex technical challenges from design through to delivery
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with engineers who combine both Platform Engineering and DevOps experience.
A lot of applicants have strong platform backgrounds but limited DevOps exposure. For this role, both areas are important.
You'll ideally have experience with:
- Microsoft Azure
- Kubernetes (essential)
- Terraform
- GitLab, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tooling
- Infrastructure as Code
- Docker and containerisation
- GitOps concepts and tooling such as ArgoCD
- Observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk or similar
- Bash, PowerShell, Python or Go
- Agile delivery environments
The Kind of Engineer Who Will Thrive Here
You'll likely enjoy this role if you:
- Love automating repetitive processes
- Like building platforms rather than simply administering them
- Enjoy introducing new ideas and technologies
- Take ownership of problems and see them through to completion
- Are comfortable rolling up your sleeves and remaining hands-on
- Want to work in a small team where your contributions genuinely influence technical decisions
Interview Talking Points
Successful candidates will typically be comfortable discussing topics such as:
- Designing reusable CI/CD components and templates
- Kubernetes operations and GitOps practices
- ArgoCD and deployment lifecycle management
- Metrics, logs and distributed tracing
- Terraform workflows and Infrastructure as Code principles
- Container security and vulnerability management
- Platform reliability, scalability and automation
Why Join?
- Salary of £80,000 - £110,000
- Small, highly collaborative engineering team
- Significant autonomy and ownership
- Opportunity to influence platform strategy
- Strong focus on innovation and modern engineering practices
- Hybrid working with 3 days per week in Central London
- Excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to accelerate their growth while remaining hands-on
This is a chance to join a business where platform engineering is viewed as a strategic capability, not simply an operational function, and where your ideas can have a visible impact from day one.
