Senior Scrum Master – Finance Data & Analytics
Organization: Digital Finance Organization (Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical Company)
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid - On-site 4 days/week)
Duration: 1-Year Contract
Summary
Our client's Digital Finance organization is seeking a Senior Scrum Master to run Agile delivery for a Finance Data & Analytics program — a group of roughly 20-25 people spanning the EDP, SAP, Non-SAP, Data Engineering, and broader Technology teams. This is a product-minded role, not a traditional finance-support role: the team wants someone who pushes the group to think "product" rather than "finance," standardizes how Jira and Confluence are used across all of these teams, drives proactive and longer-horizon PI planning instead of sprint-only thinking, and brings an outside perspective on how other organizations run Agile at scale. The role also means getting hands-on with AI tooling (e.g., Claude) to clean up and standardize program hygiene — including project and stakeholder naming conventions — and acting as the connective tissue between highly technical delivery teams (SAP S/4HANA, non-SAP source systems, AWS/Fabric data pipelining) and business/finance stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
- Own Jira and Confluence as the team's single source of truth for delivery documentation — keep Change Requests properly routed through ServiceNow rather than absorbed into Scrum artifacts, so the two systems stay clean and non-duplicative
- Facilitate all standard Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives) and drive proactive, longer-term PI planning rather than a purely reactive, sprint-by-sprint cadence
- Partner with the Technical Product Managers to bring a business/product perspective into planning, so roadmaps reflect outcomes and value rather than just technical sequencing
- Define and enforce Jira usage standards across the EDP, SAP, Non-SAP, Data Engineering, and broader Technology teams — consistent story/board structure and simple, digestible dashboards leadership and stakeholders can actually read
- Manage the Jira program of record across all of those teams, covering a combined group of roughly 20-25 people
- Proactively drive adoption of AI tooling (e.g., Claude) to improve program hygiene — including taking ownership of ongoing efforts to standardize and clean up project and stakeholder naming conventions across Jira and Confluence
- Serve as the primary liaison between technical delivery teams (SAP, non-SAP, data engineering) and business/finance stakeholders, translating between the two audiences
- Bring an external, cross-industry perspective on how Agile delivery, PI planning, and Jira/Confluence standards are run at other companies, and use that to raise the bar here
- Coach the team and stakeholders on Agile/Scrum best practices, pushing standardization over ad hoc process
- Operate with high urgency and ownership — proactively securing the access and domain knowledge needed to be effective quickly, then driving tasks and strategy to closure rather than waiting to be directed
- Reframe how the team and stakeholders talk about the work — pushing a product mindset (outcomes, roadmap, backlog) rather than a purely finance/functional framing
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile delivery lead, including senior-level ownership of Agile delivery for a technology or engineering team
- Experience owning Agile delivery for a program of 20-25+ people spanning multiple teams or workstreams, not a single small team
- Deep, hands-on proficiency administering Jira and Confluence for sprint/backlog management and documentation — able to set and enforce usage standards (story structure, board hygiene, simple/clean dashboards) across multiple teams rather than just following existing conventions
- Proven track record running standardized, proactive, longer-horizon PI (Program Increment) planning, not just sprint-level ceremonies
- Demonstrated ability to act as liaison between highly technical delivery teams and business/finance stakeholders, translating fluently in both directions
- A product mindset — able to reframe functional/finance-labeled work in product terms (outcomes, roadmap, backlog value) rather than treating it as back-office finance work
- Comfort using AI tools (e.g., Claude or similar) to drive program hygiene — for example, standardizing and cleaning up project and stakeholder naming conventions across Jira/Confluence
- Highly driven, proactive, and comfortable operating with urgency and a bias for action in a large, matrixed enterprise environment
- Strong stakeholder communication skills, with experience reporting delivery status to business and technical leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- CSM, PSM, or equivalent Scrum/Agile certification
- Experience introducing standardized PI planning or Agile-at-scale practices (e.g., SAFe) into a program that previously ran ad hoc
- Familiarity with data engineering/analytics delivery concepts (ETL pipelines, data lakes, AWS, Microsoft Fabric or similar platforms)
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow, or comfort quickly learning how Change Requests are tracked outside the Scrum/Jira process so delivery documentation stays a single source of truth
- Cross-industry consulting or multi-company background, able to bring in external best practices rather than only what's been done in this organization
- Experience supporting a Finance, Accounting, or other regulated back-office technology team that is transitioning to a product operating model
- Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries
- Exposure to SAP-driven delivery environments (S/4HANA or similar)
Tools & Environment
- Jira, Confluence
- ServiceNow (for Change Requests)
- AI tooling (Claude Code, used to build integrations and automate program hygiene across systems)
- AWS/Fabric data pipelining
