Position Description

CGI Federal is seeking a Senior ETL & Data Migration Engineer to lead high complexity extract, transform, and load (ETL) operations supporting a major federal modernization program. This role is responsible for architecting, operating, validating, and optimizing data migration pipelines that move high volume, multi-source datasets from legacy environments into modern cloud platforms. The engineer serves as a senior technical contributor within the Migration Workstream, ensuring data quality, performance, and reliability throughout large scale migration cycles.

Your future duties and responsibilities

ETL Pipeline Architecture & Execution

  • Design, develop, optimize, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines supporting petabyte scale data migration.
  • Build extraction and transformation logic for structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Engineer automated workflows for performance, throughput, error handling, and resiliency.
  • Align pipeline architecture with cloud landing zone requirements and modernization standards.

Data Migration Operations

  • Lead operational execution of ETL tasks during migration cycles, ensuring correct sequencing and validation.
  • Troubleshoot pipeline failures, resolve data anomalies, and coordinate with engineering teams to stabilize operations.
  • Conduct readiness testing and verify integration points between legacy systems and cloud targets.

Data Quality, Validation & Governance

  • Perform detailed data quality checks, completeness assessments, and validation of migrated data.
  • Lead root cause analysis for data defects and support corrective actions across the migration workflow.
  • Document recurring issues, improve detection processes, and help define quality benchmarks.

Cross Functional Technical Collaboration

  • Partner with Cloud Engineers, Data Engineers, DevSecOps teams, DBAs, QA/Test Engineers, and Product Owners.
  • Ensure ETL pipelines integrate seamlessly with cloud architectures, data models, monitoring tools, and downstream systems.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies, technical reviews, and migration planning activities.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Create and maintain ETL documentation including data maps, flow diagrams, transformation logic, SOPs, and error logs.
  • Provide pipeline performance updates, migration status reports, and data quality metrics to leadership.
  • Support development of reusable processes and technical artifacts supporting repeatable migration operations.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

  • Must have Active Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in ETL development, data engineering, or enterprise scale migration operations.
  • Strong experience with ETL tools, scripting languages, automation frameworks, and high volume data pipelines.
  • Hands on experience with legacy system extraction, cloud ingestion, and multi format data transformation.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, including pipeline diagnostics and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to operate in fast paced, multi team environments supporting mission critical delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal modernization programs including DOJ, FBI, or Intelligence Community.
  • Experience operating ETL pipelines within AWS or other cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed compute tools.
  • Advanced scripting or automation expertise (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience supporting petabyte scale data migrations or multi system consolidation.

Due to the nature of this government contract, US Citizenship is required.
