About the Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Human Resources Generalist opportunity with a well-established manufacturing organization in Jackson, Michigan.
This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working in a hands-on, employee-focused environment and is comfortable supporting a broad range of HR functions.
Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, the HR Generalist will serve as a key point of contact for employees and will provide support across employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, HR administration, employee communications, and HRIS management.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable interacting with employees at all levels of an organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to employees on a variety of HR-related topics and assist in resolving issues that may arise.
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment for hourly employees, including:
- Posting and managing job advertisements
- Scheduling and conducting interviews
- Completing reference checks
- Supporting the overall hiring process
- Assist with filling vacancies through temporary staffing agencies as required.
- Conduct new hire orientations and onboarding.
- Keep the Human Resources Manager regularly informed of employee issues, potential concerns, and recommended solutions.
- Update and revise job descriptions as required.
- Maintain and update employee information within the HRIS system.
- Provide general HR administrative support, including preparation of employment letters, disciplinary letters, and other HR documentation.
- Prepare materials for monthly Employee Communication Meetings.
- Assist with STD and LTD paperwork and monitor related cases as required.
- Understand and support the full payroll cycle, ensuring timesheets are accurate and ready for processing.
- Oversee the annual employee benefits plan re-enrollment process and respond to employee benefits-related questions.
- Ensure employee files are accurate, complete, properly maintained, and handled confidentially.
- Maintain and regularly update Employee Information Boards.
- Ensure HR literature, communications, and information boards are current and adequately stocked.
- Plan and coordinate employee social activities and events.
- Work in compliance with applicable quality and environmental standards.
- Perform other HR-related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar Human Resources role.
- Experience in an office, manufacturing, or automotive environment is preferred.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
- Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy and follow-through.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact effectively and build positive relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated experience in Employee Relations and the ability to address and resolve employee issues professionally.
- Comfortable speaking to and presenting information to groups of employees.
- Ability to establish credibility and exercise sound judgment when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Must be comfortable working fully onsite in Jackson, Michigan, five days per week.
- Experience with SAP is considered an asset.
- Experience working with HRIS systems, preferably Workday.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including:
- Outlook
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on and proactive HR professional who can effectively balance day-to-day administrative responsibilities with employee-facing HR activities.
You should be comfortable working independently, following up on outstanding matters, maintaining accurate records, supporting employees directly, and partnering closely with the HR Manager to address workplace needs.
Experience within a manufacturing or automotive environment will be highly valued, particularly for candidates who understand the pace and operational demands of a production-focused workplace.
