What The Role Entails
The Senior UX Researcher (Astra) will lead user experience research initiatives to support the growth and success of Interactive Entertainment Group Global (IEEG) invested game studios in North America and Europe, and possibly in other regions. This role will ensure that player insights are integrated into game design and development processes, driving player satisfaction and business growth. The Senior UX Researcher will collaborate closely with partnered studios, Shenzhen-based partner teams, and IEG and IEGG support functions, such as iMur, Checkpoint and other support departments and vendors.
Core Responsibilities
UX Research Leadership:
- Design and execute comprehensive UX research studies to evaluate player behavior, preferences, and pain points across multiple game titles.
- Collaborate with invested studios to identify research needs and provide strategic guidance on UX improvements.
- Work closely with iMur, Checkpoint and external UX lab vendors, to leverage their resources and expertise in conducting lab-based and remote user testing.
- Partner with assigned teams in Shenzhen to align research objectives with business goals and ensure seamless communication between Tencent HQ and invested studios.
- Collaborate with game designers, product managers, and developers to translate research findings into actionable design recommendations.
- Conduct research that accounts for cultural differences and regional player preferences, ensuring games resonate with diverse audiences.
- Share knowledge about UX best practices throughout IEGG.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence within the team.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in UX research and gaming.
- Advocate for the adoption of best practices and innovative research methods within IEGG and across partnered studios.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in UX research, preferably within the gaming or interactive entertainment industry.
- Proven track record of conducting research for AAA or live-service games.
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including usability, surveys, interviews, and analytics.
- Experience with UX research tools and platforms.
- Familiarity with game development processes and tools. And demonstrable understanding of the benefits and limitations of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during game development.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex research findings to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong cross-cultural collaboration skills, with experience working in global or distributed teams.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Mandarin a plus.
