Senior Cloud DBA

About the role

We are looking for a (Senior) Cloud Database Administrator to join a team of engineers focusing on the modernisation and automation of a large-scale PostgreSQL landscape running on Azure Flexible Server, for a major financial institution in the Zurich area.

This is a hands-on role focused on bringing infrastructure-as-code discipline to database operations rather than managing them manually.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the existing PostgreSQL Flexible Server landscape and identify performance, scalability, and security gaps
• Design and implement automation for provisioning, backup and recovery, monitoring, and scaling using Terraform, Ansible, or comparable tools
• Apply best practices for performance tuning, security configuration, and high availability
• Handle incidents and requests as part of ongoing operations
• Advise and train the internal team to support long-term self-sufficiency

What you bring

• Proven expertise administering and optimizing PostgreSQL in large, complex environments (PostgreSQL 15+)
• Solid hands-on experience operating Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server
• Experience automating database processes with Terraform, Ansible, or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices (Scrum, Kanban, CI/CD)
• German (C1) and English (B2)

Contract duration: 1 year with extension possible
