Java Software Architect

The successful candidate will define scalable technical solutions, establish architecture patterns, guide engineering teams, and ensure systems are designed for performance, reliability, security, and long-term scalability. This role requires strong Java expertise combined with broad architectural knowledge across cloud, APIs, distributed systems, data platforms, and modern AI/ML environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Define end-to-end architecture for distributed backend, cloud, edge, and data platforms.
- Develop technical architecture strategies, solution designs, and integration patterns.
- Establish architectural standards and best practices for Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, and event-driven systems.
- Provide technical direction for AWS-based solutions across compute, storage, networking, IAM, and observability.
- Design architecture for edge and CDN-based processing environments.
- Define integration patterns for third-party vendors, identity services, authentication, and secure data exchange.
- Guide the design of data platforms supporting ML inference, feature pipelines, model serving, and AI/ML integrations.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, storage solutions, messaging platforms, and integration approaches.
- Lead architecture reviews and technical design sessions with engineering and cross-functional teams.
- Identify architectural risks, scalability concerns, security requirements, and technical dependencies.
- Establish patterns for reliability, observability, performance, security, and governance.
- Partner with engineering, data science, product, and other technical teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and participate in implementation where required.
- Support greenfield initiatives and evolving technical environments where requirements may be ambiguous.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in architecture and distributed systems.
- Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
- Extensive experience designing microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and distributed architectures.
- Strong experience with AWS cloud architecture.
- Experience designing systems involving edge computing, CDN technologies, edge workers, Lambda@Edge, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of system scalability, reliability, security, observability, and performance.
- Experience designing data platforms and architectures supporting AI/ML inference and model serving.
- Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and third-party system connectivity.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business and technical requirements into clear architecture and implementation strategies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence engineering teams and technical stakeholders through architecture and technical leadership.
- JavaScript / TypeScript experience.
- Python and data engineering experience.
- Databricks or similar AI/data platforms.
- Experience with ML model registries and feature stores.
- Knowledge of JWT/JWS, PKI, OAuth 2.0, identity, or token verification.
- Experience with distributed tracing and large-scale observability.
- Experience with network/platform services.
- Open-source contributions or community involvement.
- Experience working in startup or highly agile environments.
