Backend Engineer - SAP Commerce Cloud

The Backend Engineer builds and maintains the backend of a highly complex, 100% tailor-made SAP Commerce / SAP Commerce Cloud platform with extensive third-party and interface integration. The role is hands-on and works with strong AI support: an AI coding agent accelerates code generation while the engineer remains accountable for adapting, correcting, testing, securing, and owning the implementation. The role combines deep Java and SAP Commerce engineering with a strong focus on business processes, APIs, integration quality, and reliable cloud operation.

What You Will Do

• Build, extend, and maintain SAP Commerce / SAP Commerce Cloud services, extensions, business logic, and platform capabilities.
• Translate business and functional requirements into robust, tested, and maintainable backend features.
• Develop and consume APIs and integration services for SSC, VCPS, ERP, payment, search, tax, and other third-party services.
• Work hands-on with an AI coding agent, then review, adapt, refactor, debug, and harden generated code to meet quality, performance, and security standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues, analyze root causes, and optimize performance, stability, and observability in SAP Commerce Cloud.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, solution architects, business stakeholders, and external partners.
• Contribute to engineering standards, automated testing, code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement of AI-supported delivery.

• Minimum 4–6 years of hands-on backend development experience, ideally in e-commerce or digital commerce.
• Strong professional experience with Java, Spring, REST APIs, JSON, and service-oriented or event-driven architectures.
• Good understanding of catalog and product data, pricing, promotions, carts, orders, checkout, customer accounts, and inventory or availability.
• Experience integrating SAP Commerce with ERP, CPQ, payments, tax, search, middleware, and other enterprise systems; knowledge of API security, authentication, retries, error handling, and data mapping.
• Strong skills in automated testing, debugging, refactoring, secure coding, performance analysis, and code quality.
• Ability to own backend features end-to-end and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• English – Business fluency.

• Experience with SAP Commerce Cloud composable storefront integrations and OCC extension patterns.
• Practical SAP Commerce / SAP Commerce Cloud experience, including extensions, impex, FlexibleSearch, OCC APIs, cron jobs, processes, and Backoffice configuration.
• Experience with SAP Commerce Cloud deployment and operations concepts, including cloud environments, configuration management, build and release pipelines, monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, caching, search platforms such as Solr, and application observability tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git-based development, code quality gates, containerization, and cloud-native operational practices.
• Experience working in agile product teams and international, highly integrative environments.
