Cloud Database Platform Engineer

We are looking for a Cloud Database Platform Engineer to join our Cloud Services & Operations team and help us build, operate and continuously improve our database platforms in Microsoft Azure.

The role is responsible for the engineering, administration and operational reliability of cloud database services, currently including Azure SQL Managed & SQL server Instance, PostgreSQL and Oracle Database@Azure, with the scope expected to evolve as our cloud platform grows. You will work closely with our DevOps and Cloud Engineers, SRE Engineers and application teams to ensure database services are secure, highly available, performant and operationally efficient.

The position has a strong focus on managed database services, automation, observability, performance optimization, resilience, backup and recovery and incident analysis.

Key responsibilities:

• Manage, operate and continuously improve database platforms and managed database services in Microsoft Azure.
• Support Azure SQL Managed Instance, PostgreSQL and Oracle Database@Azure environments throughout their operational lifecycle.
• Design and implement reliable, scalable and secure database configurations aligned with cloud architecture and security standards. Support database migrations and modernization initiatives
• Monitor database availability, performance, capacity and overall health service and proactively identify potential issues.
• Work closely with SRE Engineers on observability, incident response, root cause analysis and continuous reliability improvements.
• Тroubleshoot complex database performance and operational issues and provide technical support during major incidents.
• Define and maintain backup, restore, high availability and disaster recovery configurations and regularly validate their effectiveness.
• Automate repetitive database administration and operational activities using cloud-native tooling and Infrastructure-as-Code practices where applicable.
• Support application and engineering teams with database design, connectivity, performance tuning and platform-related requirements.
• Contribute to database standards, operational procedures, security controls and platform engineering practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve platform resilience, operational efficiency and automation.

Your background:

• 3+ years of experience in database administration, database engineering or similar technical roles.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance or other cloud database services.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL administration and operations.
• Experience with Oracle databases is highly desirable and would be considered a strong advantage.
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning, indexing, query optimization and capacity management. Be familiar with backup and recovery processes, high availability and disaster recovery concepts.
• Experience with database monitoring, observability, incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, identity and security concepts in Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD and DevOps practices would be considered an advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or equivalent IT practical experience.
