Data Platform Engineer
We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to grow our team of data experts. Your goal will be to constantly improve and scale our group wide adopted NN Data Analytics Platform or namely NNDAP and the Data Lab. NN Data Analytics Platform (NNDAP) is a product that provides a governed, compliant, and cost-effective Azure lakehouse foundation. It includes reusable components for data extraction, ingestion, harmonization, and quality—enabling Business Units (BUs) to build their own analytics platforms and data products faster, with reduced cognitive load. NN Data Lab (NNDL) is a managed Databricks environment designed for non-IT users, offering a simplified experience with built-in governance and automation to support data-driven experimentation and insight generation.
Your impact as a Data Platform Engineer as part of NNDAP will enable NN to be a data driven company by helping the business units to deliver high-quality software components, used at the BU’s to compile data systems which make Nationale Nederland the best data-driven financial services company. You get the opportunity to take part in designing and implementing code that will be re-used by over 110 data engineers in 10 teams and 15 countries.
Technologies You Will Work With
- Our infrastructure runs on MS Azure cloud and we use IaC.
- We use Azure Data Factory (ADF) for pipelines and orchestration and Databricks for processing and transforming data. Python (incl. PySpark), SQL, CI/CD, packaging, testing, and IaC (Bicep, Pulumi a plus)
- You will refine, build, test, deploy and automate the core functional data components as part of the NNDAP/Datalab product and offer that as a standard on a common code base serving all internal customers.
- Understand the needs of your various customers from different business units and translate them to modular solutions which are usable by the vast majority.
- You brainstorm and design solutions to optimize our data platform solution architecture along with other team members to reach to the best technical solution together. Contribute to the product vision, team learning skills by mentoring and lead technical discussions
- Share knowledge in our data engineering community, pair program and collaborate on code together with other data engineers within NN and lead/guide or participate the innersource community of NNDAP.
- Enable business teams to run successful data and AI projects and be a tech savvy or mentor other junior engineers.

- You have 5-7+ years of relevant software, data and/or platform engineering experience, building platforms which are modular, testable, scalable and easily consumable.
- data/platform engineering with significant Azure experience (ADLS/Delta Lake, Databricks, ADF) and proven delivery of multi‑tenant or productized data platforms.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: Python (incl. PySpark), SQL, CI/CD, packaging, testing, and IaC (Bicep, Pulumi a plus).
- Practical mastery of lakehouse & medallion design, data quality, lineage/metadata, and cost/performance optimisation on cloud.
- Security & governance awareness (e.g., Unity Catalog, role/attribute‑based access, secrets, policies) in regulated environments.
- Exposure to monitoring/observability and LCM at platform level.
- Familiarity with Eventdriven patterns/streaming and LakeFlow evolution alongside ADF.
- Experience preparing platforms for API driven data product exposure and higher availability patterns.
- Participation in communities such as the Data Engineering Guild.
