Staff AI/ ML Platform Engineer - RJ/SP

The Staff AI/ML Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operating the platforms that power Shape's products, across data, machine learning and GenAI. As a "platform" engineer, it is expected to create systems that scale with growing data, model and agent volumes while preserving reliability, cost control and governance. And as an "engineer", solutions are expected to meet high software engineering standards, knowing when to adopt an existing solution instead of building a new one.

The mission of this specific position is to create and evolve the GenAI platform: the layer through which AI agents are deployed, observed and managed in production, integrated directly into the products our clients use every day. The AI/ML Platform Engineer is, above all, the technical backbone that makes AI-driven products possible at Shape.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and operate the GenAI platform: agent experimentation, deployment, versioning, orchestration and lifecycle management.
• Make observability a first-class capability — tracing, evaluation (evals), quality and cost monitoring for LLM-based agents running in production.
• Define technical standards, design patterns, and reusable building blocks that reduce the effort of taking an agent or model from experiment to production.
• Own critical architectural decisions, balancing technical excellence, product needs and delivery timelines.
• Ensure the platform scales: reliability, performance, security and AI governance as agent and data volumes grow.
• Lead technical initiatives that cross multiple teams and product domains.
• Mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and knowledge sharing, elevating the technical quality of the team.
• Translate technical complexity into clear language for non-technical stakeholders and partner with product and leadership on the platform roadmap.

Requirements:

• Solid software engineering background. Real experience shipping and operating production systems/platforms.
• Proficiency in Python
• Understanding of the components that make up a GenAI, Machine Learning and Data platform: model serving and inference, orchestration, RAG and retrieval, prompt and context management, feature/data pipelines, experiment tracking, model registry, guardrails and evaluation.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud-native practices: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code.
• Technical leadership: you influence technical direction through argument and example, not authority.
• English proficiency.

Differential:

• Prior experience building a GenAI, LLMOps or MLOps platform
• Azure ecosystem, Databricks or similar data/ML infrastructure.
• Big data and streaming tools (Apache Spark, Kafka) and ETL/ELT pipeline development.
