THE ROLE

We are seeking an exceptional Lead AI Engineer to design, build and scale AI-driven platforms for the investment firm and its portfolio companies. Beyond the platform work, you will take part in deep business research, lead AI-driven turnarounds within portfolio companies and help build new enterprises from the ground up.

This is a highly hands-on role combining AI, machine learning, data science, software engineering, DevOps and business. You will define the architecture, write the code, bring systems into production and then scale them, working across the full lifecycle: from understanding the business problem and analyzing the data to modeling, architecture, development, deployment and scale.

You will work directly with the Chief Investment Officer, the investment team and the leadership of our portfolio companies.

This is not a research-only role. You will be expected to turn data, models and ideas into robust production systems that create measurable business value.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the design and delivery of AI-driven platforms for deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio monitoring and investment research

• Analyze complex datasets and develop statistical and machine learning models to support investment and business decisions

• Build the data infrastructure, pipelines and analytics layer across structured and unstructured sources: financial data, documents, market feeds, APIs and internal systems

• Design, evaluate and deploy machine learning, LLM, RAG and agentic solutions

• Take LLM-based and agentic workflows from prototype to dependable production tools used daily by the investment team

• Build APIs, back-end services and user-facing applications

• Own cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, reliability and scaling

• Establish practical DevOps and MLOps processes

• Work alongside portfolio company management to identify high-value AI, data and automation opportunities and deliver them end to end

• Contribute to deep business research, AI-led business transformations, turnarounds and the formation of new ventures

• Set technical standards, select the stack and, in time, recruit and lead a small engineering team

• Report directly to the Chief Investment Officer

PROFILE

• 8+ years of relevant industry experience across data science, machine learning, AI engineering or software engineering, with a demonstrable record of shipping production systems rather than models alone

• Strong written and spoken English is a firm requirement: you will work daily with international counterparties, advisers and portfolio companies

• Strong foundations in statistics, data science and machine learning, including model development, validation and evaluation

• Deep practical command of data analysis: you can interrogate a complex dataset rigorously and defend your conclusions

• Experience with classification, regression, forecasting, clustering, anomaly detection, recommendation or similar ML problems

• Strong current knowledge of LLMs and AI engineering, including RAG and retrieval architectures, embeddings, agent frameworks, evaluation and production monitoring

• Experience building AI-based platforms or products from inception to production

• Excellent Python and strong SQL skills

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including APIs, testing and maintainable production code

• Practical experience with AWS, Azure or GCP

• Strong DevOps and MLOps skills, including CI/CD, Docker, cloud deployment, monitoring, logging and production troubleshooting

• Comfortable working across the stack: data pipelines, services and models as well as the user-facing tools that make them usable

• Able to independently take a problem from business question and data analysis through development, deployment and production

• Strong self-learning skills: you pick up new tools, frameworks and domains quickly and independently

• Open-minded, intellectually curious and pragmatic: you choose what works over what is fashionable

• At ease with significant ownership and autonomy in a small, senior environment

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow or other deep learning frameworks

• Kubernetes, Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code experience

• Experience with forecasting, recommendation systems, NLP or financial modeling

• Experience deploying ML or LLM systems at scale

• Exposure to finance, private equity, investment research or fintech

• Experience within operating businesses, real estate or financial services
