Senior Azure Data Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our client’s data team and play a key role in building reliable, scalable, and high-performing data solutions within a modern Azure cloud environment. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys combining engineering expertise with business collaboration, turning complex requirements into robust data solutions while contributing to data quality, governance, and continuous improvement.

Role & Responsibilities

As part of a multidisciplinary data team, you will contribute across the full data engineering lifecycle, from requirements analysis and solution design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support. Your responsibilities will include:

• Analyse business and functional requirements and translate them into scalable technical data solutions.
• Design, build, maintain, and optimize ETL processes using Azure Data Factory, Mapping Data Flows, PySpark, and Databricks.
• Develop performant and maintainable data pipelines supporting operational and analytical use cases.
• Prepare and execute testing activities to ensure the quality, reliability, and stability of data solutions.
• Monitor, investigate, and resolve issues affecting production data pipelines and daily operational processes.
• Contribute to architecture, solution design, and implementation decisions.
• Work across data warehouse, data lake, governance, and supporting data-management capabilities.
• Apply DevOps principles, including Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD, to improve deployment and engineering practices.

Ideal Profile

You bring strong senior-level experience in data engineering and are comfortable working across both technical and business contexts. You have a pragmatic, proactive mindset and can independently take ownership while collaborating effectively with stakeholders and fellow engineers.

Your technical background includes:

• Strong experience with Azure cloud data platforms.
• Hands-on expertise with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Python, and Data Flows.
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT, data pipelines, and analytics use cases.
• Knowledge of data management and governance, including metadata management, data lineage, and data quality.
• Experience with Power BI and semantic data modelling.
• Database modelling experience using tools such as Erwin or Visio.
• Good understanding of DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD practices.
• Strong ability to gather requirements and translate them into clear functional and technical specifications.
• A Master’s degree in Informatics or equivalent professional experience.
• Fluent Dutch and English.

Experience in the financial or insurance sector, working across multiple technology stacks, or delivering solutions involving complex integrations is a plus. A client-oriented attitude and strong communication and problem-solving skills will help you thrive in this role.
