About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Data Analyst / Data Engineer to join a collaborative technology team working across operational data, analytics and data engineering.
The core of the role is Data Analysis, with hands-on Data Engineering responsibilities. You'll work with complex operational datasets to generate insights, improve how data is captured and used, build and maintain data pipelines, and develop dashboards and reporting solutions.
This is an 18-month fixed-term contract with potential to extend, and would particularly suit a Data Analyst who has been developing their Data Engineering capability and wants to continue that progression.
You Should Have
- Approximately 3–5 years' commercial experience across Data Analysis and/or Data Engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience working with large and complex datasets
- Hands-on ETL and data pipeline experience
- Commercial cloud experience, ideally AWS
- Practical understanding of geospatial or spatial data
- Strong dashboard, visualisation and reporting experience
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Technical Requirements
Must Have
- Data Analysis
- SQL
- Data Engineering, ETL and data pipelines
- AWS experience, ideally including Redshift and/or DynamoDB, or strong Azure experience
- Geospatial data concepts such as GeoJSON, coordinates, mapping or LineStrings
- Tableau, QuickSight, Power BI or equivalent visualisation tools
Nice to Have
- ITS, Operational Technology, transport or traffic data experience
- GIS or spatial analytics experience
- Python or R
- Azure Data Factory or Databricks
- Knowledge of transport data standards
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse operational data to identify trends, anomalies and opportunities
- Build and maintain data pipelines and automated integration processes
- Acquire, transform, cleanse and validate data from multiple operational systems
- Improve the availability and usability of data for downstream analysis
- Develop dashboards, visualisations and operational reporting
- Support data quality, governance and metadata activities
- Assist with requirements definition and data modelling
- Contribute to the continued uplift of data and analytics solutions
- Translate business and operational requirements into practical analytical solutions
