Title - Associate – AI Lead/Analytics

  • Melbourne or Sydney based
  • Equity participation
  • Very close interactions with portfolio companies - acting as 'in house/strategy/corp dev'
  • Very AI forward fund
  • Seeking Claude super users

About the Fund

Our client manages a discretionary fund (with Co-Investment Capability) over $1bn, targeting returns of 13%+ (although achieving much higher than this) across unlisted, next-generation infrastructure and infrastructure-like businesses that deliver essential services. The manager is also raising a fund with strong initial committments.

The Opportunity

As much as we have created a description here. This role will evolve and has AI at its heart. Using AI in automating, creating insights and generally seeking better returns for it's investors will be the 'north star'. This is a newly evolving role at the centre of the firm's portfolio decision-making. You'll own the firm's suite of portfolio financial models, generate the analysis that drives real capital allocation decisions across the portfolio, and help lead how AI and emerging technology are applied to modelling, dashboards and decision-making.

Why this role stands out:

• Real influence over value creation — your analysis will directly shape capital allocation and strategic decisions across the portfolio, not just report on them after the fact

• A genuine testbed for AI in investing — help lead how AI and emerging technology are applied to modelling, dashboards and decision-making, in a firm already moving fast on this front

• A growing seat at the table — increasing, direct exposure to portfolio company CEOs and CFOs as your insights earn a genuine say in how those businesses are run

What you'll do

• Own the firm's suite of five portfolio models — automating, building, maintaining and interrogating them individually and across the portfolio. Given where AI is heading, this will be a more automated function over time, and you will help it get there

• Generate the analysis and insights that help portfolio companies, and the fund itself, make better capital allocation decisions. There have been several live examples to analyse and reduce the cost, and time to customer converstion (this is one of a long list of projects that this role will assist with)

• Work directly with portfolio company management and fund leadership to turn analysis into decisions

• Use AI and other technology to automate manual analytical work and prioritise the highest-value questions

• Support live transactions and new investment analysis alongside the deal team — not the core focus of the role, but part of the mix. One future progression of the role may be to use AI to make an effective 'first pass' investment lens, or deal sourcing (long list of ideas).

About you

• Likely 3–6 years' experience in corporate-level analysis within an investment context — from corporate finance/investment banking (you're likely the AI super user at work in this scenario), or from quantitative finance, data science or actuarial backgrounds (must still have fundamental corporate analysis in these options)

• A genuine love of financial modelling and analysis — you see this as your craft, not a stepping stone

• Strong technical modelling skills, with a real appetite to bring AI and LLM tools into how models are built and interrogated

• The ability to find and tell the narrative inside a model, simplifying complex businesses into something anyone can understand

• Comfortable operating at pace and under live transaction pressure, while maintaining clarity and composure

• Based in Melbourne or Sydney
