Opportunity Description
Position Summary
HeiTech seeks a transitioning U.S. Service Member with hands-on experience in artificial intelligence (AI), software, automation, analytics, or mission technology. This is not a traditional IT-support or entry-level business development internship. The Fellow will apply an existing technical foundation to practical business and mission challenges: identifying high-value opportunities, building or integrating solutions, testing them with users, and supporting adoption.
The assignment also provides exposure to federal business development, technical solutioning, customer and partner engagement, and selected industry activities. Ideal candidates bring experience from military, Intelligence Community, cyber, C5ISR/ISR, or other national-security environments and can translate mission needs into usable technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Role Mandate: Identify meaningful problems; determine where AI, automation, data, or software can be used safely; develop practical prototypes; validate results; and help transition successful solutions toward operational use.
Training &; Learning Objectives
During the SkillBridge period, the Fellow will gain civilian-sector experience in:
- Applying AI, software, data, automation, and mission-technology skills to enterprise productivity and federal-market challenges.
- Discovering user needs, mapping workflows, defining requirements, and prioritizing use cases based on value, feasibility, risk, and data sensitivity.
- Prototyping, integration, testing, user feedback, documentation, deployment planning, and technical handoff.
- Responsible technology use, including security, privacy, approved tools and environments, human oversight, and AI limitations.
- Federal technical solutioning, opportunity qualification, capture and proposal support, and translation of customer needs into credible solution concepts.
- Communicating effectively with executives, business teams, engineers, partners, and government- industry stakeholders.
- Internal AI &; Productivity Innovation
- Engage internal teams to understand workflows, identify repetitive or high-friction tasks, and assess whether AI, automation, data, or lightweight applications can improve speed, quality, or decision- making. Develop concise, prioritized recommendations for practical implementation.
- Application Development & Implementation
- Design, prototype, integrate, and test solutions such as internal web applications, AI-assisted workflows, LLM/RAG tools, API integrations, automation scripts, dashboards, and data pipelines. Support pilot execution, documentation, user training, and handoff for approved solutions.
- Technical Business Development & Solutioning
- Support selected pursuits requiring hands-on technical judgment. Analyze requirements, shape solution concepts, assess feasibility and risk, contribute to demonstrations or prototypes, and translate customer mission needs into implementable technical approaches.
- Customer, Partner & Industry Exposure
- Participate in selected industry events, partner discussions, customer meetings, technical demonstrations, and market-development activities. Help identify relevant technologies, partners, mission trends, and practical applications.
- Interview users and observe business processes to identify bottlenecks, disconnected data, repetitive work, and tooling opportunities.
- Develop use cases and prototype plans defining the problem, users, expected benefit, data requirements, technical approach, risks, and success measures.
- Build or integrate working prototypes using appropriate software, AI/ML, generative-AI, automation, cloud, data, and API technologies.
- Test solutions through functional validation, user feedback, accuracy checks, security and privacy review, and measurable productivity or mission-value indicators.
- Document technical designs, operating procedures, limitations, dependencies, and recommendations for deployment or handoff.
- Support technical research, solution development, proposal inputs, demonstrations, and market analysis for selected business-development activities.
- Communicate progress, findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Recommend when AI is not the appropriate solution and propose simpler, safer, or more effective alternatives.
- Cyber, software development, data engineering, AI/ML, automation, cloud, systems integration, analytics, or technical product delivery.
- Intelligence Community, C5ISR/ISR, operational planning, mission systems, digital transformation, or technology modernization.
- Experience translating mission requirements into technical solutions, prototypes, workflows, or operational capabilities.
- Work in environments requiring sound judgment regarding security, data sensitivity, risk, and mission impact.
- Active participation eligibility in the DoD SkillBridge program.
- Hands-on technical experience with software development, AI/ML, automation, data, analytics, cloud, systems integration, or related mission technologies.
- Ability to move from problem discovery and requirements definition to a working prototype or technical recommendation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, curiosity, and comfort working across technical and business teams.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, deadline-driven environment.
