Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher, or Technical Scientist in Bioimaging Data Science

The Laboratory for Developmental Dynamics at the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research is seeking a Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher, or Technical Scientist to conduct research and development related to SSBD. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of next-generation infrastructure for bioimaging data and will have opportunities to collaborate with researchers and data communities in Japan and around the world through a range of national and international projects, helping to accelerate the global sharing and reuse of bioimaging data and shape the future of data-driven life science research.

About SSBD

The SSBD is an integrated platform for sharing and utilizing bioimaging data and quantitative data describing biological dynamics. SSBD shares high-quality bioimaging data acquired using state-of-the-art imaging technologies, quantitative datasets generated through image analysis or computer simulations, and associated metadata and analysis tools. SSBD also provides a public repository for sharing bioimaging data associated with scientific publications.

Beyond developing SSBD itself, we are working with international partners and data communities toward a global ecosystem for sharing and reusing bioimaging data.

Job Description

We are recruiting a scientist or engineer to conduct research and development on one or more of the following SSBD topics. The SSBD is an integrated database of bioimaging data that our team is developing and operating.

1. Functional enhancement of the integrated database SSBD.
2. International collaborative research and development related to the establishment of a global sharing system for bioimaging data.
3. Development of a platform to accelerate the utilization of bioimaging data.

Qualification

A PhD holder in an area related to the Job description. In principle, those within 5 years of obtaining a PhD will be hired as Postdoctoral Researchers, and those over 5 years will be hired as Research Scientists. For Technical Scientist, those with abilities equivalent to Master’s degree holders are also applicable.

Eligible Applicants (those who meet any of the following conditions):

• Individuals with experience in designing and building relational databases
• Individuals proficient in data manipulation and management using SQL
• Individuals with experience in backend development using Django or similar frameworks
• Individuals with experience in implementing file upload functionality with metadata input
• Individuals capable of frontend development using JavaScript or similar technologies
• Individuals with experience in developing APIs that connect databases and frontends
• Individuals with experience in developing data search and result display features through web browsers
• Individuals with experience in designing and implementing automated publishing systems, including scheduling and workflow management

A person who can dedicate themselves to the job by communicating, coordinating, and collaborating smoothly with people in and out of the laboratory.

Business-level proficiency in Japanese is required.
