Are you passionate about machine learning, predictive analytics and AI? If so, this is the perfect opportunity to join a team where you would primarily work in data science / building classical machine learning solutions - such as CLV and Churn Models that have a serious impact on the business. Of course they have Gen AI for productivity and some plans for different projects with AI features as well, but your main focus is in more traditional data science work.

About the role:

This is a large leading telco with millions of customers, based in Sydney. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will often work in projects with a Lead DS, but you might also be the technical lead for some projects and mentor juniors. Your focus is on customer and product outcomes - so having past experience building machine learning and predictive modelling around Customer Segmentation, Lifetime Value, Churn and Recommendation systems would be relevant.

Consulting or internal consulting experience (managing business stakeholders, presenting ideas, updates and insights) is important.

  • Role: Senior Data Scientist
  • Location: Sydney (Hybrid Work) 3 days in CBD office
  • Position Type: Full-Time, 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract
  • Salary: $160,000-180,000 base + super

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work as the Senior Data Scientist on large ML projects from idea through to production solutions using Python, Databricks, AWS, dbt, SQL and more
  • Help define internal processes and suggest tools for improved delivery of data science projects
  • Mentor junior data scientists and analysts
  • Work in harmony with cross-functional teams (Data Engineers, Analysts, Business Stakeholders)

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience (excluding academic or research roles) in Data Science, including leading your own projects through to deployment / productionisation
  • Strong stakeholder management and commercial acumen, including delivery of actions and insights directly to non-technical audiences
  • Self-driven and motivated attitude - this would suit someone who loves seeing the impact of their work
  • Academic background in Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Studies or similar
  • Hands-on experience with Python, Databricks (or Sagemaker or VertexAI) including deploying models in production (can be with some assistance from MLE teams)
