Details

The Haber Lab in the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard University

(https://www.haberlab.org/) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in social and

environmental epidemiology.

The broad area of research will use geospatial and geographic analysis to

understand the landscape of exposures that contribute to respiratory disease

burden, particularly asthma, in cities.

The successful candidate will work on a range of projects that focus on the social

and geographic determinants of asthma at the epidemiological level, using

geospatial analysis of city-wide datasets. These studies will examine the increased

risk that neighborhoods and air quality inside individual housing units contribute to

asthma burden in Boston and elsewhere. This line of research seeks to isolate factors,

such as indoor and outdoor air pollution, and poor housing conditions, in the social,

physical, and built environment that contribute to high asthma rates in US cities like

Boston.

Responsibilities

  • As a postdoc in the lab you will join, lead, and propose projects in the lab

which use geospatial approaches to analyze city-wide data. Typically, these

datasets will derive from electronic healthcare records and administrative

municipal data sources (e.g. housing code violations or inspection scores).

  • You will collaborate closely with other data scientists, clinical allergists,

pulmonologists and immunologists to collect new data, generate hypotheses

and plan new analyses.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in public health, epidemiology, data science, machine learning,

data science, computational biology, computer science, statistics, mathematics,

or other quantitative field.

  • Experience and/or training in geospatial analysis, Bayesian disease mapping and

other methods, spatial epidemiology

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience presenting and

communicating research.

  • Excellent problem solving and quantitative analysis skills
