The professorship focuses on the economic applications of artificial intelligence in the context of natural language processing and machine learning. The future holder of the position will represent the field of data science in teaching, research and transfer.
With its two universities and the Research Laboratory Lower Saxony of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Osnabrück offers a wide range of opportunities for data science research and transfer. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching in the following degree programs:
BA International Management, BSc Business Information Systems, BSc Business Psychology, BA International Business and Management and MA International Business and Management. - Supporting our students in developing their skills using innovative teaching formats
- Application-oriented research in self-selected key areas in the field of Business Data Science and the transfer of new research findings to industry and society
- Establishing new and maintaining existing national and international collaborations
- Contribution to shaping and further developing Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
The criteria of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) govern the
requirements for appointment to a professorship at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (www.hs-osnabrueck.de/recruitment-requirements-for-a-professorship). These are mandatory to be fulfilled. For the advertised professorship, these criteria are specified as follows according to § 25 (1) NHG:
- A university degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or a related field with a strong mathematical background is expected.
- The proof of the special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work is usually to be provided by an above-average doctorate. The proof of doctorate-adequate achievements is possible, if necessary.
- The professional career (at least 5 years of professional practice, including at least 3 years outside the university sector) must be demonstrably related to the contents and tasks of the professorship. This includes successful application of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning in business projects, profound Python knowledge, as well as practical experience with deep learning model architectures and technological innovations in the field of Large Language Models (LLMs). In addition, the activity must result in special achievements.
- The development of our student, the transfer of knowledge as well as the enthusiasm for the distinctive features of the subject is the focus of the future job holder (pedagogical-didactic aptitude). Appropriate teaching experience – preferably with students – must therefore be demonstrated.
- The ability to teach in English is expected.
IN ADDITION, THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS ARE DESIRABLE:
- Ability to teach in German; otherwise, the commitment to learn it
- Open Science affinity
- Experience in interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary collaboration (e.g., team teaching)
- Coaching competence
- Gender and diversity competence
- Intercultural experience in an international environment

The professorship is to be filled as soon as possible. The position is full-time. The place of work is in Osnabrück. Remuneration is in accordance with salary bracket W2 NBesO (Lower Saxony Civil Service Pay Act).
