New software product team - Automation Edge Applications

The role

At Everllence Automation Edge Applications, we are establishing a new software product team in Piraeus, Greece. You will work closely with colleagues in Denmark and engage with customers across Greece and the Mediterranean region. The team's mission is to develop customer-facing applications that help vessel crews and shipping companies operate and optimize engine performance more efficiently.

As a Data Scientist - Engineering Applications, you will play a key role in transforming operational and engineering data into actionable insights and valuable digital products.

You will work closely with domain experts, software developers, and product stakeholders to identify opportunities, develop analytical solutions, and support the creation of applications that improve troubleshooting, decision-making, and system performance.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape a newly established product team while benefiting from the support, expertise, and stability of a global engineering organization.

What you will be doing

  • Combine engineering and domain knowledge with large volumes of operational data to create products that provide clear value to users and customers.
  • Identify and frame high-value use cases for troubleshooting, performance optimization, and operational decision support together with customers and product colleagues.
  • Explore data using statistical and physics-informed methods to distinguish meaningful system behavior from normal operational variation.
  • Develop algorithms and logic models for diagnostics, anomaly detection, performance insights, and actionable recommendations.
  • Work closely with application developers to transform analytical models and prototypes into maintainable production software that can run reliably at the edge.
  • Collaborate with domain experts across Research & Development to understand systems, validate findings, and identify new opportunities.
  • Ensure a disciplined approach to data quality, validation, traceability, and communicating uncertainty.
  • Leverage modern technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, where they create value for users and products.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into practical insights that users can understand and act upon.

Who you are

You combine engineering curiosity with practical data skills and can connect a signal in a dataset to what is physically happening in an engine, industrial asset, or complex operational system.

Ideally, You Bring

  • A relevant engineering or technical background, for example in mechanical, marine, energy, industrial, automation, or control engineering, supported by hands-on domain experience.
  • Knowledge of engines, industrial equipment, energy systems, manufacturing environments, or other complex technical systems, and an interest in how operators use them in practice.
  • Experience analysing time-series or sensor data and applying statistical, signal-processing, or physics-informed methods.
  • Programming skills in Python, C#, or a comparable language, with the ability to turn exploratory work into clear and maintainable logic.
  • A disciplined approach to data quality, validation, traceability, and communicating uncertainty.
  • Experience deploying analytics in edge, maritime, industrial, manufacturing, energy, or other operational environments is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Proficiency in English language.

You enjoy moving between detailed engineering analysis and product-level decisions. You are comfortable challenging assumptions, asking for missing context, and focusing on insights that users can understand and act on.

Benefits & Learning Opportunities

  • Flexible working arrangements, including the possibility to work from home 2-3 days per week after the initial onboarding period of three months, subject to manager agreement and business requirements.
  • Attractive compensation package
  • Continuous training opportunities
  • Work in a challenging multinational environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement

Welcome to Everllence Greece and the Automation Edge Applications Team

You will be joining our Automation Edge Applications team, consisting of 21 colleagues, including software developers, engineers, designers, and product managers. The team is responsible for designing and developing the digital products used by vessel crews when operating and optimizing our engines.

The team is primarily located in Denmark and works closely with an additional team of 12 colleagues based in India.

The Automation Edge Applications team is part of the Automation function within Everllence R&D, an organization of approximately 160 professionals responsible for the electronic control systems of our engines.

You will be based in our established hub in Piraeus, Greece, and become part of the local Software Engineering organization, where colleagues contribute to a variety of global software and digitalization initiatives across Everllence.

While your day-to-day work will be closely connected to the international Edge Applications team, you will also benefit from being part of a local engineering community and collaborating with professionals across the Piraeus site.

About The Team's Mission

The team is focused on creating customer value by combining user research, customer insights, data-driven analysis, and software development.

The goal is to engage directly with customers, both onboard vessels and in shore-based operations, and transform their needs into valuable digital products. These solutions may help improve troubleshooting, optimize engine performance in relation to other onboard systems, or provide actionable insights through data analytics for shipping companies.

While this role focuses on UX research and design, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team where different competencies come together to deliver customer-centric solutions.
