Data Engineer (databricks) - Data Product Center
Indexed description
As a data engineer, you will help design and deliver the next generation of data solutions. Working across business, data, and technology, you will shape how data is integrated, governed, and consumed across BEC. You will collaborate with product owners, engineers, architects, and banking stakeholders to translate business needs into sustainable, high-quality data products.
The role offers broad stakeholder exposure, close collaboration with colleagues in Denmark and Poland, and the opportunity to influence solutions that support the financial sector and millions of banking customers. The Data Product Center accelerates data-product delivery by providing modern tooling, standards, and platform capabilities to development teams across the organization. Your direct manager will be Mateusz Kruszek.
The modern data platform uses Azure, AWS, and Databricks. It is designed around metadata-driven automation, data contracts and governance, multiple integration patterns, self-service data-product development, and scalable, secure cloud-native architecture.
Primary tasks and responsibilities include:
- Modernize existing data solutions by transitioning from the legacy Netezza-based data warehouse to BEC's Azure, AWS, and Databricks platform.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable end-to-end data-processing solutions covering acquisition, transformation, integration, quality assurance, and data exposure.
- Develop reusable frameworks, standards, and platform capabilities that accelerate data-product delivery across the organization.
- Define and implement data products, including their purpose, scope, interfaces, and intended business use.
- Collaborate with architects, data engineers, software engineers, QA engineers, business analysts, data-governance specialists, and banking stakeholders to deliver reliable, well-governed solutions.
- Promote data-product principles, best practices, and adoption of the Data Modernization platform while supporting refinement, implementation, testing, onboarding, and operational readiness.
- Support platform stability through monitoring, maintenance, operational support, and continuous improvement, while following BEC's delivery processes, data-governance standards, regulatory requirements, and agile ways of working.
- At least two years of experience as a data engineer or in a similar data-focused role.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark, including PySpark.
- Strong Python and SQL skills, including performance optimization and troubleshooting.
- Experience designing and building data pipelines and integrating data from sources such as APIs, Kafka, SFTP, databases, and batch-processing solutions.
- A solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and modern data architectures.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably across Azure and AWS.
- Knowledge of data-product concepts, domain-driven data ownership, and platform-based architectures.
- Experience with data-governance and data-quality frameworks in compliance-focused environments.
- Experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
- Mental health support
- Free lunch at the office
- Professional development budget
- Referral bonus up to PLN 10,000
- PLN 600 on a benefit platform a month
- Passion clubs and social events (tennis, salsa dancing, board games, family picnics and more)

In the transition phase, we are recruiting for roles that we expect to be highly needed in our future organization.
