About Us

We are Ocado Technology and we empower global grocery retailers with cutting-edge cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. Our Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) powers highly automated Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs), enabling efficient, single-pick online grocery delivery.

The Data Platform team is responsible for foundational tooling that supports scalable, secure, and efficient data workflows. Building on top of our Data Intelligence Platform, their work enables consistent environment management, reliable pipeline orchestration, and supports the broad adoption of industry-standard tools for data transformation and quality monitoring. The team will also be responsible for capabilities that accelerate the path to production for data products and enable more effective and secure data sharing with partners - helping Ocado Technology meet partner data, analytics, and machine learning needs, and supporting decision making to drive partner growth.

The Responsibilities Of This Role Include

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data practitioners, platform engineers, and partner teams, to gather requirements and deliver high-quality, reliable platform features that support diverse data workflows. Understanding stakeholder needs, to ensure the platform delivers real value and accelerates their work.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure data platform components across the full technology stack, with a focus on pipeline orchestration, data transformation, and infrastructure automation. Take ownership of key components within the data platform, driving design decisions, roadmap contributions, and continuous improvements.
  • Contribute to code reviews, testing, deployment, and operational support processes to ensure the stability and maintainability of platform services and tooling.
  • Stay current with industry trends in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and platform tooling, and bring new ideas and technologies into the team where appropriate.
  • Act as a platform advocate, partnering with product and engineering teams to ensure adoption and effective use of platform services.
  • Support community and team growth through mentoring, documentation, recruitment activities, knowledge sharing, and participation in working groups — contributing to Ocado Technology's high-performance engineering culture.

Essential

You will have:

  • A minimum of 4 years' hands-on experience developing production-grade data engineering solutions in Python, including writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude, Gemini, Copilot) as part of the engineering workflow — for code generation, review, debugging, or documentation.
  • A proven track record of delivering scalable, reliable data engineering solutions using modern cloud-native tools and workflows (e.g. Grafana, Airflow, Terraform).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills, with the ability to work across engineering, product, and data functions.
  • A pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset with a deep appreciation for maintainability, security, and operational excellence in platform engineering.
  • Experience building or supporting shared data infrastructure components (e.g. orchestration frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure as code)

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Grafana, Airflow, BigQuery, and Terraform
  • Experience with GCP + AWS infrastructure and operations
  • Exposure to data quality tooling
