We are investing heavily in its data capabilities, bringing together Data Engineering, Analytics, BI, and AI into a high-performing, business-critical function. As part of this transformation, we're looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our growing DataOps team.

Reporting to the Data Platform & AI Manager, this role combines hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring responsibilities. You'll play a key role in designing and delivering modern data products that drive analytics, management information, and business decision-making across the organisation.

What You'll Be Doing

Data Engineering & DataOps

• Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Python, DBT, Dagster and modern ELT technologies
• Develop and optimise data transformation workflows and analytics engineering solutions
• Build robust, reliable, and well-documented data products
• Implement automated testing, monitoring and data quality controls
• Work with a variety of data sources and cloud technologies, including Snowflake and Azure
• Champion DataOps principles and "data-as-code" practices
• Troubleshoot complex data platform and pipeline issues

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical guidance and support to fellow engineers
• Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices
• Act as a technical escalation point for complex challenges
• Help define standards for architecture, development, and quality assurance
• Contribute to planning, prioritisation and technical decision-making

Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner closely with Analytics, BI, Reporting and Product teams
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Lead the delivery of Level 2 (L2) data products supporting critical business reporting and insights
• Communicate progress, risks and dependencies clearly to stakeholders

Mentoring & Development

• Support onboarding of new team members
• Coach and mentor junior engineers
• Promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning
• Help foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture

Essential Skills & Experience

✅ Strong experience as a Data Engineer or similar role

✅ Advanced Python and SQL skills

✅ Hands-on experience with DBT

✅ Experience with orchestration tools such as Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect

✅ Snowflake experience

✅ Azure experience (or transferable AWS/GCP experience)

✅ Experience building scalable ELT/data pipeline solutions

✅ Git and CI/CD knowledge

✅ Strong understanding of data modelling and database design principles

✅ Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
