Senior Software Engineers – Financial Services / Hedge Funds

Location: Newcastle

Level: Senior / Lead

Industry: Financial Services / Investment Management / Hedge Funds

We're hiring Senior Software Engineers to join rapidly growing technology teams building platforms and tools for some of the most demanding environments in financial services.

These roles sit close to investment teams, quantitative researchers and front-office users, solving technically complex problems across financial data, research platforms, internal tooling and investment technology.

We're particularly interested in Senior Software Engineers who enjoy working in small, high-calibre teams, taking ownership of problems and remaining hands-on rather than moving away from engineering into pure management.

Senior Software Engineering

You'll design and build high-performance applications, platforms and internal tools used across investment and research teams.

Relevant experience could include:

  • Strong backend development experience with Python, C++, C#, Java, Rust or similar
  • APIs, microservices and distributed systems
  • High-performance or data-intensive applications
  • Cloud technologies, particularly AWS or Azure
  • Docker, Kubernetes and modern CI/CD practices
  • SQL and large-scale data processing
  • Building tools for traders, quants, researchers or investment professionals
  • Front-office, systematic trading or hedge fund technology experience

Financial services experience is highly advantageous, particularly within hedge funds, asset management, quantitative trading or investment banking, but exceptional engineers from other technically demanding environments will also be considered.

What they're looking for in Senior Software Engineers

You'll be someone who combines strong technical fundamentals with a genuine interest in solving difficult problems.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A strong academic background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or another quantitative discipline from a leading University
  • 5+ years of hands-on commercial engineering experience
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Strong communication skills
  • An ability to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A desire to take ownership rather than simply deliver predefined tickets
  • An interest in financial markets, investment management and quantitative technology

For senior and lead-level positions, they're particularly interested in engineers who can raise technical standards, mentor others and influence architecture whilst remaining highly hands-on.

Why join?

This is an opportunity to move into a highly technical financial environment without becoming a small part of a huge technology organisation.

You'll work closely with the people actually using the technology, have significant ownership over what you build and solve problems where software, data and investment decision-making intersect.
