Senior Data Engineer – Azure / Databricks
London | Hybrid – 3 days per week
Up to £100,000 + package
We’re working with a large, established organisation that is investing heavily in its data capability and is looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a growing London-based team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who still enjoys being hands-on technically but wants to have a bigger influence on the people and engineering around them.
You won’t be stepping away from engineering into management. Instead, you’ll act as a senior technical presence within the team- helping shape solutions, mentoring other engineers, improving standards and working closely with the wider data leadership team.
You’ll work across the design and delivery of modern cloud-based data solutions, taking data from a variety of sources and transforming it into reliable, well-structured datasets used across reporting, analytics and emerging AI/ML use cases.
Alongside being hands-on, you'll help raise the engineering bar across the team through technical guidance, mentoring, code reviews and input into how solutions are designed and delivered.
The environment is heavily focused on Azure and Databricks, with good software engineering and DevOps principles sitting at the heart of the team's approach.
We're looking for an experienced Data Engineer who can bring strong technical capability alongside the confidence to support and influence other engineers.
You'll ideally have strong experience across:
- Azure data engineering
- Azure Databricks
- Data Factory
- PySpark and Python
- Delta Lake
- SQL
- Data warehousing and dimensional modelling
- CI/CD and modern software engineering practices
- Building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines
Experience with areas such as Terraform/IaC, streaming data, Unity Catalog, data governance or Power BI would be useful, but isn't essential.
More importantly, we're looking for someone who has spent several years building data platforms in production environments and can demonstrate good tenure and progression throughout their career.
This role sits in the sweet spot between Senior and Lead Data Engineer.
You’ll remain hands-on and close to the technology, while becoming a go-to person within the engineering team and helping less experienced engineers develop.
There’s plenty of scope to influence how the team works, improve engineering practices and play a key role in the continued development of the organisation's data platform.
Salary: Up to £100,000 + package
Benefits: Performance Bonus, Life Assurance, 5-7% matched pension, private medical, enhance maternity/paternity leave, 25 days holiday with option to buy and sell, dental, season ticket loan, EV scheme, L&D budget etc.
Location: London
Working pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week in Central London.
