Senior Software Engineer – AI/ML Platforms

📍 Houston, TX | On-site 5 days per week

We are partnering with a major global organization to hire an experienced Senior Software Engineer into its global Data Science & Machine Learning team.

This is an opportunity to work in a highly commercial, fast-moving environment where technology, data and AI are being applied to complex, real-world problems with significant business impact.

The initial focus will be supporting and developing the organization's growing Generative AI platform and firmwide AI assistant, alongside a broader portfolio of machine learning, data and software engineering initiatives.

This is not a pure research or Data Science position.

We're looking for a strong Python software engineer who can take AI/ML concepts and prototypes and turn them into robust, scalable and maintainable production applications.

The Role

You'll work closely with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, technology teams and commercial stakeholders across the organization.

You'll act as a key technical presence for the AI/ML team in Houston, helping users adopt new tools while translating business requirements into production software.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production applications supporting GenAI and ML products.
• Translate business requirements into well-designed application features.
• Develop clean, modular and maintainable Python software.
• Help evolve AI/ML applications from prototype through to reliable production systems.
• Develop and maintain APIs, software tooling and data pipelines supporting machine learning.
• Work with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to productionize models and AI capabilities.
• Integrate AI tools with existing enterprise applications and infrastructure.
• Work across data sourcing, application integration, infrastructure and tooling.
• Debug and improve applications with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions.
• Participate in and lead code reviews.
• Help establish software engineering best practices across the ML/AI environment.
• Manage multiple projects and stakeholder requirements simultaneously.
• Act as a technical bridge between Data Science, engineering and business teams.

You'll gain exposure across the full ML lifecycle, from initial requirements and data through solution design, implementation and production deployment.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Excellent Python development skills.
• Ability to write clean, modular, tested and well-documented production code.
• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and development best practices.
• Experience taking applications from prototype to production.
• Experience with APIs and data engineering.
• Cloud experience, ideally AWS.
• Experience with Docker/containerized applications.
• Understanding of enterprise software development lifecycles.
• Experience with CI/CD concepts and tooling.
• Strong technical communication skills.
• Comfortable working directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to operate independently and prioritize multiple projects.

Particularly Interesting

Experience with any of the following would be highly valuable:

• Generative AI / LLM applications.
• Production machine learning systems.
• ML infrastructure and MLOps.
• AI assistants or enterprise AI applications.
• Airflow or Dagster.
• Cloud ETL/ELT pipelines.
• AWS-based ML infrastructure.
• Building software in complex, data-intensive environments.
