Skills
As a Reliability Engineering Co-Op, you'll gain real-world experience while contributing to initiatives that improve equipment reliability, plant performance, and operational efficiency. Students will have opportunities to develop skills in:
- Equipment reliability and asset management
- Predictive and preventive maintenance technologies
- Reliability data analysis and reporting
- Root cause analysis and problem solving
- Continuous improvement and maintenance optimization
- Equipment performance monitoring and troubleshooting
- Vibration analysis, thermography, and condition monitoring technologies
- Cross-functional teamwork, professional presentation, and communication skills in a heavy industrial environment
- Assist with equipment inspections and condition monitoring activities, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and other predictive maintenance technologies
- Collect, organize, and analyze equipment performance, maintenance, and downtime data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Support troubleshooting efforts, root cause analyses, and corrective action development to improve equipment reliability
- Maintain reliability databases, equipment records, and maintenance performance metrics to ensure accurate reporting and data integrity
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to support reliability projects and plant objectives
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing equipment uptime, reducing maintenance costs, and improving operational reliability
- Assist with safety and environmental initiatives that protect employees, equipment, and the environment
- Develop reports, recommendations, and presentations for engineering and plant leadership
- Sophomore standing or higher pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum 2.75 GPA
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing, mining, and chemical processing environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all safety and environmental requirements
- Coursework or project experience in Reliability Engineering, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, Asset Management, Predictive Maintenance, or Statistical Analysis
- Experience working with equipment, maintenance, manufacturing, or industrial operations data
- Familiarity with vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, or other condition monitoring techniques
- Interest in manufacturing, mining, heavy industry, or maintenance and reliability engineering
- Experience using data analysis tools to identify trends and support decision making
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
