Work with both modern Java technologies and established Progress/OpenEdge systems while gaining experience across a diverse enterprise technology stack.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain current and future financial systems using Java and Progress/OpenEdge.
- Work closely with the Financial Systems Team Leader on related projects providing timeline and task information through analysis based on a proposed project scope.
- Provide timely and accurate project task updates.
- Provide advanced-level technical support to Menards' corporate staff, store, Helpdesk, and technical support Team Members to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of business operations to facilitate communication regarding business requirements.
- Meet with Business Users to gather feedback, evaluate satisfaction, and identify opportunities for system improvements.
- Analyze user enhancement and maintenance requests, determine possible solutions, and complete necessary changes.
- Actively participate in writing code, testing, and implementing program changes and new development.
- Consistently monitor and test work to ensure a high level of quality.
- Suggest and recommend ways to improve the quality and efficiency of work within the IS Financials Department.
- Coordinate software and hardware installation with user departments, ensuring satisfactory results.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Financial Systems Team Leader or Manager.
- Participate in a rotational department on-call schedule and provide after-hours support as required.

- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering, or related major.
- Strong programming fundamentals and experience/proficiencies in:
- Java or another object-oriented programming language.
- SQL and database development.
- Progress/OpenEdge, preferred but not required; the ability and willingness to learn Progress is required.
- Knowledge of/Proficiency in:
- Database administration, data definition language (DDL), structured query language (SQL), and relational database design concepts and practices.
- UNIX operating system and writing UNIX shell programs.
- Basic Skills Required:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperate effectively in team efforts.
- Must work within designated normal office hours assigned or required by work.
- May be required to work overtime and provide on call support, including weekends and holidays.
- Relocation to Eau Claire, WI and minimal travel required.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, presently and in the future, without sponsorship.
