Primary Responsibilities
- Work within the boundaries of the approved Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to solve business needs and minimize risks to the Bank through clean and resilient code with guidance as needed.
- Provide feedback in pull requests to other team members.
- Participate in code reviews by presenting and providing constructive feedback on code quality and improvements with team members.
- Write organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code using Java, Spring Boot, Python, and related technologies, verified by a senior team member as required.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices.
- Utilize source control management tools to organize and maintain code, with review from manager for structure and conflict resolution.
- Jointly analyze technical and business requirements for completeness, accuracy, and feasibility with senior team members to ensure accurate scoping of work.
- Collaborate, document, and communicate technical implementation details clearly and concisely within the team on dependent requirements as needed.
- Develop and support automation, integration, and data-processing solutions using Python.
- Participate in application modernization initiatives and contribute to technical design and implementation decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native applications.
- Contribute to front-end development efforts using React and related technologies when applicable.
- Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Education And Experience Required
- Associate's degree and a minimum of 3 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience OR Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years' education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of systems analysis and/or application development work experience.
- Professional proficiency in Java and/or Python with experience developing enterprise applications.
- Experience developing applications using Spring Boot and RESTful APIs.
- SQL and Database Development
- Experience with source control tools such as Git and collaborative software development practices including code reviews.
- Understanding of object-oriented design principles and modern software development methodologies.
- Experience developing applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Python.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to multitask on moderately complex projects.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Experience with React and modern front-end development frameworks (preferred).
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and application security principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
