Senior Data Engineer
Indexed description
You're a data engineer at heart: you love building solid, well-structured data platforms. You see the bigger picture behind the code. You're curious about the business context behind every dataset. AI is changing the way data work gets done and that excites you: you use it to move faster, while staying sharp enough to question what it produces. You take ownership, enjoy guiding others and always look for a smarter way to do things.
What will you be doing?
- Business translation: translating business needs into solid, working data solutions, and staying close to the reasons behind every choice
- End-to-end data platforms: building and implementing end-to-end data platforms, from collecting and structuring data to deciding how it gets used further down the line.
- AI-augmented delivery: you use AI tools to speed up your day-to-day work, while staying critical enough to validate and improve what they generate.
- Guidance and knowledge sharing: you coach customers and junior colleagues, helping them grow and get the most out of the tools and platforms you build.
Who are we?
From creating the most basic reports to building a data architecture from scratch – you name it, we’ve done it. In the Microsoft Data Team, you’ll join more than 100 data engineers, analysts and scientists, working on innovative projects alongside one another.
We love to dive deep into data to help clients get to know their company from the inside out. This makes every project a new learning experience we get to share with each other. And we definitely love to share. Through team meetings, data snack sessions, going to conferences and reporting back on them and discussions (called DataCafés) we keep each other in the loop.
As AI takes over more of the repetitive work, our role is shifting too. We see that as an opportunity rather than a threat. Less hands-on-keyboard, more conducting the orchestra of tools and agents around us. That means combining technical depth with a real feel for the business context behind the data.
Just so you know delaware has its offices in Antwerp, Ghent, Kortrijk, Liège, Lummen, and Wavre. But it’s important to note we also spend a lot of time connecting and working together with customers on-site.
Is there a match?
Let’s see. If you…
- have 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with hands-on work in Databricks and/or Microsoft Fabric, SQL, Python and PySpark;
- are familiar with Kimball, semantic models and CI/CD practices;
- comfortable working with AI tools in your daily work, and critical enough to validate what they produce rather than take it at face value;
- have a versatile mindset: you combine technical depth with a genuine interest in the business context behind the data;
- are proactive: you take ownership of customer relationships and enjoy guiding others, whether that's a customer or a junior colleague;
- are curious by nature, have a problem-solving attitude and are always looking for a more efficient way to do things;
- are fluent in Dutch and/or French, and proficient in English.
...then you may be the Senior Data Engineer we’re looking for!
