The Company

Our client is a well-established UK organisation operating within a people-focused, regulated environment, with technology and data playing an increasingly important role in the future of the business.

They're continuing to invest in their data and analytics capabilities and are looking for a Data Engineer to join their growing team, helping to build and evolve a modern Azure data platform.

This is an opportunity to join a technically focused team where you'll have genuine influence over how data is collected, transformed, governed and delivered across the organisation.

The Role

This is a hands-on Data Engineering role with a strong focus on Azure, ETL/ELT pipelines, data modelling and automation.

You'll take ownership of the full data pipeline lifecycle, from gathering requirements and ingesting data through to transformation, production and delivery of reliable, governed datasets for analytics and reporting.

Working closely with Data Engineers, BI Developers and business stakeholders, you'll help design and build scalable data solutions while contributing to the ongoing development of the Azure data platform.

If you enjoy owning projects end-to-end and building reliable data infrastructure rather than simply maintaining existing pipelines, you'll fit in well here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain end-to-end ETL/ELT data pipelines
  • Take ownership of data engineering projects from requirements through to production
  • Build scalable data models and SQL transformations
  • Optimise queries and pipelines to ensure performance, accuracy and reliability
  • Implement data quality monitoring, alerting and incident resolution
  • Work across Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Synapse Analytics and Azure SQL
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Azure data platform
  • Implement data security and governance controls including RBAC and encryption
  • Collaborate with BI Developers, Data Engineers and business stakeholders
  • Work with internal teams and third-party suppliers to deliver data projects
  • Document pipelines, data dictionaries and technical processes
  • Contribute to Agile delivery and continuous improvement

About You

You're an experienced Data Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of technical delivery and building production-grade data pipelines.

You'll have strong Azure data engineering experience alongside solid SQL and data modelling skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience building and delivering ETL/ELT pipelines in production
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data services
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, ADLS and Azure SQL
  • Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics or equivalent cloud data warehouse technologies
  • Strong SQL skills covering data transformation, modelling and query optimisation
  • Experience using Python for scripting, data wrangling and automation
  • Good understanding of Git, CI/CD and Agile methodologies
  • Experience with data quality, governance and compliance
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft Fabric – Lakehouses, Dataflows Gen2 or real-time analytics
  • Databricks, PySpark or Delta Lake
  • dbt
  • Experience working within the health or social care sector

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation where data has a genuine purpose and impact. You'll have the opportunity to influence how data engineering is delivered across the business while working with a modern Azure data platform.

You'll have genuine ownership over projects, exposure to a broad range of Azure technologies and the opportunity to help shape the future of data and analytics within an organisation that is investing heavily in its technology capabilities.

If you're looking for a hands-on Azure Data Engineering role where you can own projects end-to-end and make a tangible impact, this is an excellent opportunity.
