Are you a Data Engineer looking for the chance to build something new, rather than simply maintain what’s already there?

This Housing Association in the East Midlands is at the beginning of a major change in how it uses data, moving away from its existing setup and building a modern cloud data platform centred around Microsoft Fabric.

They’re looking for a Data Engineer to join the team and play a key role in making that happen.

You don’t need to already be a Microsoft Fabric expert.

If you’ve been working with Azure data technologies, Databricks, Synapse or another modern cloud data platform and want to develop your Fabric experience, there’s plenty of opportunity to make that move here.

You’ll be joining at an early stage, helping to build the pipelines, data structures and engineering practices that will eventually underpin analytics and reporting across the organisation.

Rather than walking into an environment where everything has already been decided, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how the platform develops and what good data engineering looks like.

Day to day, you’ll be:

• Designing and building ETL/ELT data pipelines
• Helping build out the new Microsoft Fabric platform
• Working with lakehouse and modern data architecture approaches
• Introducing good practice around CI/CD, testing and automation
• Supporting the migration of data into the new cloud environment
• Working with stakeholders to turn requirements into technical solutions
• Helping improve engineering standards and sharing knowledge across the team

There’s a good balance between hands-on engineering and the opportunity to influence.

You could already be working with Fabric, but equally you might be an Azure or Databricks Data Engineer looking for the opportunity to add Fabric to your skillset.

You’ll ideally bring experience across:

• SQL and building data pipelines
• ETL/ELT development
• Azure, Databricks, Fabric or similar modern data tooling
• PySpark, Python or similar
• Lakehouse, medallion or comparable data architecture patterns
• CI/CD and ideally Azure DevOps
• Data modelling, data quality and governance

You don’t need to tick every box. They’re looking for someone with strong Data Engineering foundations who wants to help shape a new platform and continue developing their technical skills.

The role is paying £55,000 to £58,000 alongside a good benefits package, including an excellent pension contribution.

It’s predominantly remote, with occasional travel to the office in the East Midlands around once or twice a month.

If you want to get hands-on with Microsoft Fabric and be involved from the early stages of building a new data platform, this could be a brilliant next move.
