Job Description
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in building and scaling our modern data platform on Google Cloud. This platform underpins our ambition to become a truly data-driven business, enabling teams across Finance, Merchandising, Ecommerce, Retail, and Wholesale to make better, faster decisions.
Working closely with the Data Architect / Lead, you will translate architectural designs into scalable, production-ready data solutions. You will take ownership of building high-quality data pipelines and models, ensuring our data is reliable, well-structured, and trusted across the business.
This is a hands-on role where you will combine strong engineering capability with a passion for quality, performance, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Own (Responsibilities)
Building the Data Platform
- Design and build scalable, reliable data pipelines on GCP
- Ingest and integrate data from multiple source systems (e.g. OMS, ERP, eCommerce platforms)
- Implement data transformations across Bronze → Silver → Gold layers in BigQuery
- Develop high-quality, reusable data models (facts & dimensions)
- Apply modelling standards defined by the Data Architect / Lead
- Ensure data is structured in a way that supports self-serve analytics and reporting
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting
- Support reconciliation across key systems (e.g. OMS, finance, payments)
- Contribute to data contracts, lineage, and documentation to build trust in data
- Translate architectural designs into scalable, maintainable solutions
- Drive best practices in ELT, modular transformations, and CI/CD
- Promote high standards in coding, testing, and documentation
- Work closely with the Data Architect / Lead on solution design and platform evolution
- Partner with Data Product & Insights teams to deliver analytics-ready datasets
- Collaborate with Engineering and Integration teams to improve upstream data quality
- Optimize BigQuery models and queries for performance and cost efficiency
- Ensure reliability and stability of data pipelines
- Proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks and issues
- Overall, 6 to 9 years of experience SQL and data modelling experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with Google BigQuery in a production environment
- Experience with core Google Cloud Platform data services such as:
- Dataform (or dbt equivalent)
- Cloud Composer (Airflow)
- Pub/Sub
- Cloud Storage
- Proven experience building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines
- Experience in Retail environments
- Strong understanding of data engineering best practices (testing, CI/CD, version control)
- Experience working within defined architectural frameworks
- Ability to balance rapid delivery with long-term maintainability
- Experience with Looker or similar BI tools
- Familiarity with data governance and cataloging tools (e.g. Dataplex)
