We have an opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team in Auckland.

Te tūranga | The role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-quality data solutions that enable trusted insights and decision-making across ASB.

Working within a collaborative, agile environment, you’ll contribute to the development of scalable data pipelines and platforms, while partnering with stakeholders to understand and deliver against business needs.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and data engineering processes
  • Build reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions using modern data engineering practices
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and standardise processes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver aligned data solutions
  • Apply software engineering and site reliability principles to improve data quality and performance
  • Contribute to data engineering standards, documentation, and best practices
  • Support and mentor team members, contributing to capability uplift across the team
  • Champion continuous improvement across data platforms, processes, and ways of working
  • Ensure adherence to ASB’s risk, governance, and control frameworks

Ō pūkenga | About you

We’re Looking For Someone With Strong Technical Capability With Minimum 5 Years Experience, a Collaborative Mindset, And Strong Understanding Of Dbt And Snowflake

  • Significant experience working with data engineering, data warehousing, or large-scale data platforms
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, including optimisation and productionisation
  • Experience with data integration, CI/CD, and modern data architectures
  • Exposure to cloud-native platforms, streaming technologies, or containerisation
  • Strong understanding of data structures, data modelling, and engineering principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A proactive approach, with a focus on quality, improvement, and delivery
  • Awareness of risk, security, and governance considerations in data environments
