Data Engineer
Location: London | Salary: Up to £75,000 – £80,000 | Hybrid: Tue–Thu in-office, 9am–6pm
La Fosse are delighted to be partnering with a global independent brand and design agency, home to around 350 people across 8 studios worldwide (roughly 160–165 in London), in their search for a Data Engineer to join a brand-new data function - a genuine ground-floor opportunity to help shape how the business builds and uses data from day one.
About the Role
As Data Engineer, you'll be the builder behind the agency's data platform - designing and maintaining the pipelines, integrations and data models that turn information from core systems (NetSuite, SugarCRM, BambooHR, Microsoft 365) into a reliable foundation for reporting, analytics and AI.
You'll work closely with a Business Analyst and receive technical support from the person who helped define the data structure, while partnering with IT, Finance and Operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves building and solving integration problems, but who can also communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and translate business needs into practical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipelines & integration: Build and maintain reliable pipelines using PySpark notebooks on Microsoft Fabric; develop REST API integrations across core systems with robust error handling, alerting and monitoring
- Modelling & warehousing: Design well-structured data models using a medallion lakehouse (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and dimensional (star schema) approach, powering Power BI and other downstream tools
- Quality & testing: Build automated data quality checks, resolve issues at source, and maintain documentation and lineage
- Security & governance: Engineer data flows in line with GDPR and the business's governance framework, applying access controls, secrets management and encryption
- Platform & automation: Work across Fabric, Power BI Direct Lake, Azure (Key Vault, Blob Storage, Entra ID) and GitHub CI/CD; automate manual processes and support AI/Copilot initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on data engineering experience with production pipelines
- Advanced SQL, strong Python, hands-on PySpark/Spark
- Experience building REST API integrations (OAuth, pagination, error handling); iPaaS experience (e.g. Workato) a plus
- Solid grounding in data modelling, ETL/ELT and modern warehousing concepts
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (or equivalent lakehouse), Power BI and Azure services
- Understanding of data security, privacy (GDPR) and governance
- A clear communicator, pragmatic and quality-focused without over-engineering
- Experience with finance, resourcing or CRM platforms (e.g. NetSuite and SugarCRM) highly desirable
- Exposure to international, multi-entity businesses an advantage
Why Join
- Build a data function from the ground up, with real scope to shape architecture and strategy
- 24 days holiday plus the last Friday of every month off - 36 days off a year, plus bank holidays (including Christmas)
- 5% employer pension contribution
- ClassPass or Nuffield gym membership
- Monthly CBT/psychologist sessions available, if wanted
