Summary
The Transportation Pricing Manager is responsible for overseeing mid-mile freight rate analysis, pricing strategy, and revenue optimization across customer accounts and delivery markets. This role manages the processes necessary to maintain competitive freight pricing while balancing service requirements, profitability objectives, and market conditions. The Transportation Pricing Manager partners closely with Transportation, Finance, Operations, and Ashley Distribution Services (ADS) leadership to develop analytical tools, evaluate pricing performance, support strategic initiatives, and provide critical business insights that drive decision-making.
This position requires strong analytical capabilities, advanced Excel expertise, a deep understanding of transportation pricing and market dynamics, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams through data-driven recommendations.
Responsibilities
Freight Pricing & Revenue Optimization
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve freight pricing models to optimize revenue while considering competitive market conditions, transportation costs, opportunity costs, strategic account requirements, and service expectations.
- Conduct routine reviews of freight pricing to ensure rates remain competitive and aligned with organizational objectives.
- Monitor freight revenue performance and evaluate freight structure changes by customer, market, and transportation network.
- Make recommendations regarding pricing adjustments, surcharge strategies, and revenue improvement opportunities.
- Calculate, support, and maintain freight rates and fuel surcharge programs.
- Analyze transportation market trends, competitive pricing, and industry benchmarks to support pricing decisions.
- Gather and assess competitor freight rate information and market intelligence.
- Evaluate transportation profitability by freight lane, customer, market, load type, and service offering.
- Develop freight forecasts and business analyses to support operational and financial planning.
- Support 3PL and backhaul business planning initiatives through financial and operational analysis.
- Price new customer accounts and support the transition of truckload and strategic accounts into the network.
- Partner with dealers, marketing teams, and operational stakeholders to evaluate freight requests and pricing opportunities.
- Analyze show trailer utilization and recommend strategies to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Collaborate across departments to identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue growth, and process improvement.
- Perform complex transportation and financial data analysis utilizing large datasets.
- Develop reports, dashboards, and analytical tools to support leadership decision-making.
- Validate and audit data accuracy to ensure reporting integrity.
- Measure and monitor key performance indicators related to freight pricing, network performance, and profitability.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on transportation efficiency, profitability, and process optimization.
- Present findings, recommendations, and business cases to leadership teams.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making.

- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Transportation, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Pricing, or Business Analytics.
- Experience analyzing transportation costs, freight markets, and pricing strategies preferred.
- Experience working with carrier networks, 3PL providers, or transportation operations preferred.
- Experience with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Python, or other data management and visualization tools.
- Experience developing automated reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Knowledge of transportation network optimization and freight forecasting methodologies.
- Strong understanding of transportation, supply chain, and freight management principles.
- Knowledge of freight market intelligence platforms such as DAT, SONAR, or similar tools.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including modeling, forecasting, pivot tables, Power Query, and complex formulas.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to gather, cleanse, validate, and interpret large transportation and financial datasets.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence business decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively across organizational levels.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies.
