The Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist will play a central role in developing and maintaining Colt DCS’s enterprise reporting and analytics landscape. Working within the Data Integrations & BI team, you will design, build, and manage high‑quality BI solutions, semantic models, and insights dashboards that support strategic and operational decision‑making across the organisation.

You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand their data needs, translate them into meaningful visualisations, and ensure data is accurate, consistent, and accessible. This role combines strong technical capability with business engagement, data storytelling, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business teams to understand reporting needs and translate them into actionable dashboards and analytics solutions.
  • Apply data storytelling techniques to communicate insights clearly and effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and paginated reports for a range of business functions.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reports and models.
  • Build and optimise tabular data models, datasets, and semantic layers for reliable enterprise reporting.
  • Implement DAX calculations, performance‑tuned queries, and effective visualisations aligned with best practices.
  • Develop reusable BI components (dataflows, shared datasets, templates) to support self‑service analytics.
  • Design and maintain logical and semantic data models that support analytics and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure data pipelines and transformations meet BI requirements.
  • Ensure BI artefacts align with data governance standards, naming conventions, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure BI solutions are built on clean, accurate, and well‑governed data sets.
  • Perform ad‑hoc data analysis and deep dives when required to support data quality investigations, root‑cause analysis, and reconciliation activities.
  • Support with adoption, training, and interpretation of dashboards.
  • Participate in governance processes around datasets, workspaces, security, and access controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, automate manual tasks, and enhance data accessibility.
  • Contribute to the roadmap for BI and self‑service analytics enablement across the organisation.
  • Evaluate new Power BI features, tools, and best practices, proposing improvements where beneficial.


Skills and Experience

  • 3–5+ years in Business Intelligence, data analysis, or reporting roles.
  • Strong, practical experience with Power BI including: data modelling, DAX development, dataset design, report building and optimisation
  • Solid SQL skills and experience working with relational databases (preferably Azure SQL).
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts (star schema, dimensional modelling).
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft analytics ecosystem (Power BI Service, Power Platform, Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to transform data into meaningful insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to translate business requirements into clear, impactful BI solutions.
  • Experience with version control and BI lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with business systems such as Dynamics 365, SugarCRM, Workday, or operational platforms.
  • Exposure to Python or other scripting languages used for analytics automation.
